We didn't have someone like Kase to give up. Its a no brainer for Boston to get the younger, cheaper, better option than someone like Carter.

I like Kase and think he can do well in Beantown. He's had a hard time with the injury bug, but when healthy is a good player who can score.

Edit: I wonder if the Bruins ship Kase as part of a deal for a bigger fish like Krieder.

My money is on the Ducks. Kings could work this for a 1st to take on Backes, and send a B prospect back in return. Everyone says we have a ton of CAP room, but if you throw in Backes $6 million, it gets a bit tighter if we are trying to sign a decent D man over the summer. Still have to sign 9 or 10 guys. If the CAP goes up a couple million, leaves you with about 18-19 million to sign the rest of the roster if you take on that contract. It can be done, just not as much wiggle room to make moves next season.

Good call bro.

Gonna get shit on for saying this again, but I still think our best option right now would be to move Kopitar. He’s young enough, and there should be some playoff teams out there who could afford his contract.

He’s signed on for 4 more seasons carrying a 10 mil cap hit. He’s 32 and could or could not start to decline soon. We aren’t going to be contenders for 2-3 years in which Kopitar will be 34/35. Vilardi and Turcotte will possibly be our #1#2 centers in a couple years, meaning Kopitar could possibly be our 10 mil cap hit 3rd line center?

We could get a hell of a return for him now, and not risk him declining and being untradable in a year or two...

Be nice!

I think the general consensus has shifted towards that possibility, but he has a NMC and there has to be a buying team.

I don't know who wants to take that entire cap hit on. You have to really look at each team and not just their current cap status, but what they will look like in a year or two paying RFA's and such and see if it's realistic.

We will be stuck with him better or worse the next few years which I'm fine with.

Maybe in his final year you can move him if need be.

It changes over to a M-NTC starting next year, per CapFriendly.

CLAUSE DETAILS: Beginning in 2020-21, Player submits a list of 7 teams he is willing to be traded to.

Things may come full circle and see Kopitar rumored to Detroit.

I’d take back their 2020 1st (not lottery protected), Zadina and Cholowsky for Kopitar with 50% retained.

We've cleared out enough vets. In two years, it may just be Kopitar and Doughty left (assuming Quick goes via expansion draft or trade). Kopitar as our 2nd line center will be fine.

At the beginning of the rebuild last year, Blake clearly stated he needed to have two additional #1 draft picks. He got one in the Muzzin deal. There is nothing on the current roster (save Doughty or Kopitar) that can get us another, so taking back a bad contract is the only way we can get an additional first short of cannibalizing other assets such as the bevy of second rounders we possess. I'm not sure we can get rid of Carter in such a deal, but cap space is the most important asset we have right now, so we may as well utilize it as so few teams have any. Don't worry about AEG, this is all chump change now that LA Live has been developed. Just thank the Lord we are not owned my Melnyk who does count his pennies- otherwise Ottawa with its two upcoming lottery picks and loads of cap space would be a real threat.
We could easily look at it and say he did get the extra 1st when he drafted Kaliyev. There is no chance he’s anything other than a 1st round pick in a redraft today.

Not necessarily. They have to play Tampa in round 2.

I believe that seeding is set from the regular season, with only the teams who make the conference finals having their draft spot changed. I remember this well from last season when Toronto got knocked out in the first.

Can we take on Gardiner with a 1st?

Got to eat 3 more years after this one at a shade over $4 million per. Has an M-NTC (7-team no trade list).

He is 29 so not over the hill by any stretch and has been playing better since the New Year. Took him awhile to get settled in.

Give me that Leafs 1st ++.:naughty:

I like that deal for the Ducks, Kase's injury/concussion history is frightening (and seriously affects his value in my eyes), and a first in this draft is a big get. Backes' salary doesn't matter as they won't be competing soon and they have the space

“They still have Trevor Lewis out there. They’ve still got Ben Hutton out there. And they’re going to have an interesting one, which is Jeff Carter. They’re not really looking for ‘D’ but they’re looking for forwards.

“I think they’ve committed. They’ve said we’re keeping our cornerstones Kopitar and Doughty and that’s it. And we’re going to move pieces around them and we’re going to build ourselves up.

“Someone called me today and said there’s definitely interest in Carter. The Kings could increase their return if they’re willing to retain (salary). The biggest question is what does Carter think? Last year he made it very clear he did not want to go anywhere. I’m not convinced he wants to go to Philly, it’s too far, he’s very comfortable in California. But what if it was Arizona? What if it’s somebody around there?”
