Im a little worried if we clear excessive cap for a few reasons..

1- Luc somehow sold some more magic beans and thinks this team can sign a few UFA this offseason to accelerate the rebuild.
2- Will we be taking in Cap dumps for picks?
3- We will be forced to overpay for UFA just to reach the cap floor
4- We will be forcing kids into longer call ups that could affect their development.. The Ontario kids should get no more than 5 games each and focus on getting into the AHL playoffs especially now that they've found their groove and are playing lights out

EF 'thinks' the Flyers have interest. For me, where all this started was a few months back when it popped up in a local news article a 'what if' the Flyers brought back Carter. Then other bloggers and reporters picked up on it. I have not heard the Flyers pursuing him and as much as I am not a fan of Fletcher, I can't see him doing that move.

FIrst of all, the FLyers have only 2M in CAP space, so the Kings would have to eat quite a bit of his salary. Second, I can't see Fletcher moving out salary or any kind of significant assets/picks to make room for an aging forward on the decline. THird, the player that Fletcher has mentioned was a top 6 winger who could play center to support Couturier and Hayes. Ghost is the piece that they are rumored to be packaging to get that forward. And it wouldn't be Carter
Of course anything can happen, but I doubt this will.

ya ghost seems like he is on his way out and I wold like LA to get him. Just do not see the teams as good partners right now.

Anyone else disappointed the Kings didn't get a 1st rounder? Geez, I swear posters here were jumping up and down because of all the injuries on D from other teams. Yet, Blake didn't even wait the last minute at the deadline. And posters here now look happy.. what happened?

No.

1) while prices fluctuate, taking a hard stance on a first and gouging people you're dealing with is a bad practice. You want trades good for both teams.

2) waiting till the deadline while everyone has done their shopping means you may not be able to finalize a deal now

Agree with all of this, especially #2. You can see this actually happening in reality as the last few years we've seen more and more significant deals take place during the days leading up to the deadline.
Seems like buyers are also identifying their needs and are trying to get these guys earlier so they can get more out of those players.

On the topic of deadline trades involving defensemen...

If we were to come up with a similar type trade today, this would be like trading Sean Walker, Kurtis MacDermid and a mid-round first that turned out to be like another Colten Teubert in exchange for Erik Karlsson. Naturally, a year later the Kings would fudge it all up.

1) a UFA on a two year type deal, even an overpay, would not be the worse thing ever. Especially for a dman
2) Sign me up for that, with the caveat that the cap dump does not have more than 2 year term
3) LA has so much dead cap next year I think they may already be at the floor.
4) I am good with a platoon of guys taking turns in the NHL.

If Carter moves and a roster player isn't returned out line-up is looking like this. Assuming Lewis also gets dealt.

That's one of the worst rosters I've seen since being a Kings fan.

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
JAD-Kempe-Frk
Wagner-Amadio-Prokhorkin
Moore-Schaller-Lizotte

I'm a glass half full guy... That looks like a pretty solid tanking line up to me. :)

Plus, next season we'll see some more young players get opportunities and the Kings will have cap flexibility to bring in 1-3 UFAs on short term deals.

That's rebuilding. They've had 1 draft since they submitted to the reality of rebuilding. What they're currently working with are the remnants of few picks in a given draft, and even fewer high quality picks. They're not trying to put a good roster on the ice.

1 - That's just an inherent bias against Robitaille talking. There's nothing that's happened for well over a year now that says they're going to do that.
2 - For picks? No. With picks? Probably not, since they've wasted so much money for half a decade, but maybe.
3 - They can easily overpay a scrub for a year to reach the floor. It hurts nothing. They'll be alright.
4 - They didn't force kids into the lineup this year. They very likely won't do it next year.

Just filling out the roster will get them close $70M thanks to all of the dead money.

This is still a business and business is bad right now. I'm sure the difference in the trade return was negligible to AEG when staring at the ability to drop $4MM off of next year's payroll. Kings have brought back a modified version of the Die Hard Section at $20 a game so things aren't looking hot for next season either.

AEG will spend when the time is right, however.

Hmm. I could go either way on this, as Ive said on this board multiple times before. Other then just checking stats I don't really know where all these prospects are in terms of their development or where they will be to start next season (which is another 8 months of development from now) or who we get with our first pick next draft.

But to assume that none of our prospects (or only a couple) should play (due to development) next season is something I flat out disagree with.

I am of the belief that most players develop better in the NHL then they would at lower levels, provided they get sufficient minutes and a team willing to deal with the ups and downs.

I look at the talent we could potentially roll out if we play a large number of our prospects (Turcotte, Kaliyev, Vilardi, Bjornfot, Kupari, 2020 high 1st, etc...) And all of a sudden we likely have a drastically more talented team then what we have been watching for years. AND I think in most cases it's BETTER for their development.

If you were to suppliment that with some impact players (Free Agents or via trades) then you might be making the most out of Doughty and Kopitars timeline, Helping the prospects develop, and maybe a legit young playoff team very quickly.

I don't necessarily think this strategy would be shortsighted or wrong.
I see this combination of prospects with Kopi and Doughty plus a couple impact FA's and all of a sudden this team looks very talented, with great leadership and fits nicely under the cap.
