So Carter linked to Flyers on Freidman's 31 thoughts. Not the first time he has been linked to them.

If Carter is dealt it would show me that Blake has the balls to move out more core pieces than peripheral ones. Would be very sad for me, but would get it.

I would not expect a large return (if any) without major retention by LA. I am skeptical that this happens.
It’s not a question of balls, he needs a buyer. We no longer have the old Jeff Carter and I struggle to see anyone taking the current version, certainly not as plan A, B of C. If they do then fantastic but Carter is not going to be in high demand.

Carter is a guy I wouldn't be all that interested in eating salary AND settling for a middling pick (3rd or 4th), which is what's being discussed over on the trade board. Carter has versatility, can slot in at RW when Vilardi gets his eventual cup of coffee, and I think Carter's value increases as we get closer to his deal ending. The time to trade Carter was two years ago, or is a year or two from now. We are in the Carter value black hole.

I agree and just assume keep him to play with Vilardi.

I'm thinking Doughty retires a King. But if you want to move him, it will require the Kings retaining. No one is eating that whole contract.

Right. I forget how we got here, but I think it was about Doughty losing friends and wanting out? That's fine for him, but the Kings aren't retaining for 7 years. He's just going to have to suck it up, go through the motions for a while, and wait until young players that are somewhere near his talent level can finally drag this team back to respectability. Sucks for him, sucks for us, but at least he gets paid to do it.

If Blake moves Lewis and Carter after Martinez the Kings will definitely be on the right path.

They've been on this path since they got rid of Pearson, if not Stevens, it just takes time.

Yeah, I wouldn't move Carter with retention for just a mid-round pick.

Carter is still scoring at a 20 goal pace. If the Kings retain the max his cap hit is only 2.6M. Meaning the team acquiring him would hardly be risking anything in terms of cap space.

The ask should be a 2nd round pick and a B prospect. The 2nd becomes a 1st if Carter scores x amount of goals.

Carter with retention and term should be worth more than toffoli, imo

i'll be quite impressed if they actually successfully blow this team up in one trade deadline

maybe the FO finally took the hint

Do you think the FO wasn't moving more players in say the last calendar year because they had some crazy illusions of being competitive?

How credible is this guy? Don’t believe I have heard of him before.

It was noted by Freedman in his 31 Thoughts yesterday the Flyers might be looking at Carter so I suppose where there’s smoke...
Davis is legit. Lesser known but a trusted name and a regular on sirius nhl, he’s primarily their pacific division guy.

Anyone else disappointed the Kings didn't get a 1st rounder? Geez, I swear posters here were jumping up and down because of all the injuries on D from other teams. Yet, Blake didn't even wait the last minute at the deadline. And posters here now look happy.. what happened?

If Carter moves and a roster player isn't returned out line-up is looking like this. Assuming Lewis also gets dealt.

That's one of the worst rosters I've seen since being a Kings fan.

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
JAD-Kempe-Frk
Wagner-Amadio-Prokhorkin
Moore-Schaller-Lizotte

No. They were never worth a 1st.

we'll never know if someone offers a 1st unless the kings wait for 5 days...
Prefer 2 2nds over a late 1st personally. Do not see anyone giving up a 1st yet alone 1st + even a 3rd. If we get NJ 2nd and it is similar next yr so 35 overal would you prefer 28 overal straight up or 35 and say 50. I'll take the latter

EF 'thinks' the Flyers have interest. For me, where all this started was a few months back when it popped up in a local news article a 'what if' the Flyers brought back Carter. Then other bloggers and reporters picked up on it. I have not heard the Flyers pursuing him and as much as I am not a fan of Fletcher, I can't see him doing that move.

FIrst of all, the FLyers have only 2M in CAP space, so the Kings would have to eat quite a bit of his salary. Second, I can't see Fletcher moving out salary or any kind of significant assets/picks to make room for an aging forward on the decline. THird, the player that Fletcher has mentioned was a top 6 winger who could play center to support Couturier and Hayes. Ghost is the piece that they are rumored to be packaging to get that forward. And it wouldn't be Carter
Of course anything can happen, but I doubt this will.

I don’t think we had the talent to receive a first. Prior to the Toffoli hatty the guys on nhl talk were wondering if a team was willing to go higher than a third and a prospect. Marty is not the same Marty as a few years ago. He plays hard and it is starting to show. Toronto took our backup and a 4th liner so no first there.

I think Blake is playing his cards right. Spacing out trades and jumping on things when they get their asking price instead of chancing an injury.

mid the Vegas trade is true and a few more 2nds are added like rumored the front office has all kind of picks and prospects to move up in the draft.
