A contender who wants a warm body who can handle the pressure of playoffs - a literal plug for a hole in the lineup - maybe nets us a 5th rounder?

Sounds about right.
Blake should go to Lewis and say how they have need his roster spot for a younger player. Due to what he has contributed to the Kings ask him to compile a list of where he would like to go if needed. Than Blake should try and deal him to a place where he wants.

Unfortunately, Lewis's value has tanked due to injuries the past two seasons. He was very good in 2018 but he's now at the point where he's getting a Nate Thompson type return. Maybe a Freddie Modin type return of a conditional 7th? He'd really just be a freebie to a playoff contender while clearing a spot for a kid as the Kings play out the string.

I would honestly be surprised if anyone is interested in Lewis at this point in his career. Maybe a team that needs a cheap vet on their 4th line?
Sadly I agree and have said it all year, but I think they’d like to move him if possible. I’d personally like to think he’d be waived if we can’t move him but I don’t see that happening.

I think this is the best case scenario, and we’d probably need to retain 50% also.

However, the good news is that Toffoli is playing consistently well enough to start building some potential high end trade value. If he can keep it up playing with Kopi he will hopefully show that if he is put in the right situation he will be a valuable piece. I ragged on him constantly before December as he’d done nothing to warrant a 1st round pick. Now, I have at least a little hope that he might just fetch that 1st after all. That said I’d still be ok with a 2nd.

Our 2nd best hope for futures, AMart, now needs to do something similar. I don’t think he was doing enough to net even a 3rd round pick before his injury. So hopefully he sees the enforced break as a reset and can bounce back strong. There’s always some idiot that will overpay so if he can get his play to be worthy of a 2nd, he might just net us something even better. Even if it is a stretch.

The improvement in the teams overall play will hopefully create an opportunity for some of these guys to show some trade value now. I’ve decided to be glass-half-full on the subject from now until the TDL.

Hence they need to be in the lineup and play to recoup some value then get moved.. doesn't matter if we get a 4th or 7th round pick with the way we've been drafting lately it'll turn into something good

I don’t see forging an identity as all that realistic right now. Given we are anticipating significant roster churn before the TDL and likely more in the summer it won’t start developing properly until camp at the earliest IMO.

Our new identity will need to be built around and installed into the youth movement. The system is the focus and when the young guys start graduating en masse they’ll bring those extra ingredients that will identify the Kings going forward. The vets we keep will be pivotal and play key roles, but the kids will define us. That’s how I see it anyway.

I agree it's got to evolve, but if the GM can't even vocalize it right now, that's a problem. Especially when you have a 5-year coach in play. RElatedly, I'm not sure I could tell you what identity the TMac Sharks had.

If we want to move Lewis he needs to play, no matter how bad he has been.

So send down Luff, not the guy with goals.

Lewis activated from IR. We don't need these guys anymore. They should trade Martinez, Forbort, and Lewis.

And everyone just has to be patient. Predictably, if these guys move, it'll be at the deadline. The thing is, nobody needs them. In Oct, or Dec. It's a slow, methodical process. Anyone not in their UFA year is unlikely to be dealt, and if they are in their UFA year, it'll be at the deadline. That's the hard cap at work. Have to go through the motions. Unless you're talking about a Hall type player that multiple teams might actually want, who are relatively young, and who have real talent.

And Martinez isn't Muzzin, even at full health, so I wouldn't put him in the guaranteed gone column either.

Frk scores 3 goals in 4 games and gets sent down for Lewis? Lol

Lewis, $2m. Frk, $700k here, $350k in Ontario. Frk was signed a cheap 2 way to deal by a bad team for a reason. Lewis is still going to get to play when healthy. Forbort over Clague. When MacD is eligible, Clague will likely go back down, since Ryan will also come back eventually. Age, cap hit, salary, contract, it all matters. Even though it's not our money, and ownership has plenty of it.

They just have to cycle through these contracts. It's going to take some time. The NHL is very paint by numbers now. Certain times you can make a trade. Only certain guys you can trade. Not many out of left field stuff anymore. Frk is lower on the totem pole.

With Lewis playing, Frk would just be benched. Might as well send him down to the AHL to get him time to play. Plus, they had to do it within a certain time span so he wouldn't go through waivers.

The reason I'm not a fan of Frk being sent down is two fold. First, I think the development of the younger players is more important than increasing the potential return for Lewis from a 7th to a 6th. He is much more capable in the offensive zone and I think that meshes better with some of the younger players. That leads into my second point, which is that he is simply more entertaining to watch. It's a failed season already, I would at least like to enjoy watching the team.

Lewis is a Kings legend, a hard worker and a guy that plays the right way. It completely makes sense why he is immediately inserted back in the lineup, however he has not been a very fun player to watch this season.

I mean, "team with scoring woes sits scoring winger for dependable Kings legend" is a great tank move I guess.

I get it, give Frk playing time in the AHL, but it's really self-defeating to take a 26-year-old who needs a chance soon and throw him back down to the minors. At least give him a couple more games, what's the god damn rush with Lewis?

Especially when in 2 games time we're bringing back Martinez, Forbort, Lewis, Brown and keeping up Luff? Christ, it's like they're actively trying not to give the guy with 3 goals in 4 games a chance to grow. At least give him a couple more games.

Frk was brought in to provide a scoring threat for Ontario. That team needs that kind of player, especially with their other veteran AHL player bolting for the KHL. Can't leave that kind of pressure for kids for the majority of a season.

That is Frk's best value to this organization.

Frk is a guy who is too good to be in the AHL but not good enough to be consistently in an NHL lineup.

Every organization has this type of player.

I understand the intrigue with him seeing he potted 3 goals in 4 games. His overall body of work at the NHL level has been subpar.

I’m sure he gets another look before the season is out. Will not be surprised if he’s playing in Europe within a few years.
