Anyone who is an actual fan of hockey can't actually want the efforts of their teams players during a win overshadowed by the referees right? This happens time, and time, and time again. What the hell has this sport become.

That may be but this is also a tournament that's seen future stars spitting on their opponents at the end of a game

Svitov? Is that the “future star” you’re referring to?

There have been plenty of immature displays in this tournament, but typically they take place during the heat of the game. Not a badly calculated tantrum.

But I’m not excusing the rest.

I don’t get this better team crap.

Hart was solid and he’s part of the team.

We’ve had more talented teams lose but they weren’t the better team because our goalies couldn’t make saves when it counted and they are part of the team.

Hart wasn't particularly tested, however I just didn't feel that we were the best team. Sometimes the best team doesn't win when it comes down to one game - it came down to whoever scored with a minute and a half left to play. Which happened to be Canada tonight.

Came here to see a bunch of people crying on the internet about how much class a teenager has. Was not disappointed.

Who's making the thug life cut from the clip of Lias Andersson tossing the medal into the crowd? Hahaha.

While bawling his eyes out?

I think you could make an argument for Sweden being the more aggressive team when it comes to puck pursuit, plus they did a fantastic job for 50 minutes of the game when it comes to always having someone supporting defensively.

But yeah...Carter Hart is a player. Goalies count. If they outplay the other team, they are still a part of the team lol.

Well he could have a least kept it and melted it down to make something useful.

I’m not saying he would be disqualified, but the NHL is so competitive today. The difference between a 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders today isn’t huge. If a kid can’t handle adversity, I would bet against him making it.

Can you imagine someone tossing the Stanley Cup into the crowd if they lost? It was a very poor action and showed a ton of poor taste on his part. I think it’s an embarrassment to everyone who plays the game.

The losers dont get the stanley cup... so no.

I get that Andersson threw his medal away. I get the frustration after losing such a close game. I dont think it makes him any less of a person or hockey player. Im also glad he got it back. I think one day he’ll be proud of it.

Sweden lost the game. Canada did the important things better this time. This game could’ve gone either way. Today Canada won. Any other day Sweden could’ve won. But its not any other day so grats to Canada.

The reffing was not consistent.

Yes I'm BC born and bred and I'm actually depressed by what I just witnessed.
Seriously depressed?? Those penalties were legit all of them! Dahlin sticking his leg out to trip the forward!! What the hell is the ref supposed to do. Those calls were no brainers. It was a great game both teams could've won it happened to us last year

It could've just as easily counted as not. Hard to blame the refs for losing a game where they quite literally saved Sweden a goal against.

They saved us from a goal against where there was no goal? Great logic. Tell that story to Finland.

17th Gold medal for Canada. 4 wins no losses V's Sweden in Gold medal games. Practice practice Sweden and try again next year.

Just looking for someone's opinion about the penalties, someone who isn't Canadian. I thought they were all legit but the interference call was close (the ref saw what he saw)

Maybe Canada should have taken a penalty at the end there when someone slashed Liljegren which caused the turn over at the blue line that resulted in the empty net goal
One-sided. Canada got away with everything, Sweden didn't.

Why, because I thought the reffing was abysmal? It's apparently against the rules around here unless it's in Canadian favour? Apparently it's "salty" to think they were not good at all at keeping a consistent level over 200ft of the rink? I haven't complained about the refs for the entire tournament until this game, because this time, it was so blatantly one-sided.

For the 500th time, I'm fine with the game and I'm fine with the loss as a Swedish fan, because it was a great game and it was basically a coin toss in the end who would win. In fact, the odds were probably slanting towards Sweden even. But that's hockey.

That I think the refs were a joke - which several Canadians and other nationalities also think - has nothing to do with how I feel about the actual game. They are two separate statements.
Right, except your comment wasn't about any of that, it was about Canada celebrating winning a gold medal in a fashion (graciously) that you didn't like because the refs called more penalties on your team then they did my team, even considering those Canadian power plays did absolutely nothing for them and actually cost them a goal. But yes, refs gave this game to Canada.... Was a good game, both teams played incredible, do we have to take that away from them?

English is not my first language sorry haha. I mean why would he need to show class here? So you think players should just not care about losing ?

No, but what makes you think the rest of the Swedish team is happy with losing? Just because they didn't yard sale their medals?

How does immediately donating your medal show that you're the only one upset about losing?

I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about.

He wasn't on the ice for the second goal, though he was leading Sweden in minutes in the tournament. He played well in most of the game.

He has offensive upside and has been good against less competition, When he doesnt get the time as today, he make bad decisions and turnover the puck a lot!

All told I thought it was a fairly even game. Canada just got the last break and scored with no time left for Sweden to answer. Congrats to Canada for the gold and nothing but respect for the way Sweden played all tournament. The heartbreak is real.

I am not Canadian (or Swedish). The reffing sucked. I am not saying that Sweden's penalties were not legitimate. I am saying that the refs called a different standard for both teams.
