The thing is, every time it’s not a Canadian #1 it’s a big deal. That’s changing as other countries get better. So the fact that the past few years we’ve only been dominating the draft instead of obliterating it is taken to mean that other countries are passing us

Other countries have passed us when they start winning back to back Olympic Golds when the best players are there. When they start winning 5 straight World Juniors or back to back IIHF WC's.

Canada will continue to have more players drafted into the NHL every year than everyone else for our lifetimes.

Well that’s probably it for the Czechs. Worst pk coming in to play a powerhouse team with a lethal pp and they’ve done themselves in with bad penalties already.

Still 40 mins left but it’s going to be tough.

It's an expensive sport everywhere, but Canada is the only top 6 country where the participation numbers are decreasing.

Very expensive in Canada... very...

To volunteer coach is getting even harder with all sorts of hoops to jump through....

Parents that never trust anyone and think little Johnny is the next coming of Sam Gagner...

Difficult at many levels...

I know personally and have coached personally in the face of all of this...

But I am retired from coaching now and see and hear it from others still...

Hope for better...

And... sadly you are right...

Another obstacle in Canada is just affording to play...

True...

Just play in outdoor rinks until they find you, simple. The deepforzen arctic Canada is full of rinks and ponds of natural ice also to deke and dangle, shoot and shine.

Yeah. Unfortunate. I know a lot of people are just putting their kids in ball hockey now. Way cheaper and still decent hockey skills needed.

Yep. Not to mention we aren’t trying to diversify the game at all. Which for a diverse population is not good.

Bad first half of the period, good second half.

We better stay out of the box against these guys though, they can burn you on the P.P

Idk how old you are but I can see us slipping. Countries like America are starting to care about hockey. And when they care anywhere close to as much as we do, they have 10 times the population to fuel that.

Just looked at the rankings, Canada barely has players ranked in the top10... just an odd weak year or is this a new trend, canada doesn't produce as good talent as they used to?

To be fair Girard, Chychrun, Jost, Patrick, Dubois are all in the NHL

But I do agree. We might not be as dominant as we were but we’re definitely still #1

Depends on where you live. Hockey is still reasonably affordable in rural Canada. Cheaper than a lot of other activities I have put my kids into.

Unfortunately Counter Strike...

It's cold out there...

I wish I was a young kid again... would love to skate in the dark with the lights out forever again...

Would love that my Mother would call the neighbor next to the Community Club who would yell out the window at me and tell me my Mother wants me home...

But I'm not a kid today...
