With outdoor games, not only do the fans get blessed with terrible hockey, but the players get blessed with injuries too! Everybody wins!

Ponder, ponder again. This is great outdoor fun gathering together even 50 k people enjoying the game of ice and snow. It couldn't get much better than this. First grade sports entertainment with a homage to the roots of this great game!

You are a first class contributor on hfboards but this time you just missed the mark and happen to be out to lunch on this issue as they say. The wise men.

Lol all of a sudden this isn't a major tournament?
I think what they mean is when you take the best players, all players are available to the team. Not the case for the WJC but everyone, or at least most teams miss players who are not released by their NHL teams. In the Olympics, or WCH you see the absolute best. This was a great game, US dominated pretty much start to finish, only concern for the US should be goaltending going forward. Canada only needed a tie and then beat Denmark to win first place, but that is only due to the US crapping the bed yesterday, real case of thinking ahead.

Honestly the saltiness from Canada fans here is pure gold. You lost, get over it. We'll see you later in the tournament regardless. Go USA.

P.S. Tkachuk is such a pest, absolutely love it. But will hate it once he's in the NHL playing against the Rangers
No saltiness. U.S. Won fair and square.

But Canada getting to OT was the most important part, not the win. It clinched 1st for them baring some crazy upset.

Beating the US would have been good for the confidence of the players for sure. I do think it's in their head that they will find a way to lose against them.

Canada basically gave that game away with 2 very undisciplined penalties. The 1st gave Team USA a 2 man advantage and got them back in the game. The 2nd could easily have been called a major but it also led to a Team USA PP goal. Honestly, very disappointing!

Meh, I agree with ponder. Whats so good about ”playing it the way it used to be played”, when the only thing it brings is:
Bad weather conditions
Bad ice
Bad quality of gameplay
Maybe 1/4 of the attendance can actually see whats happening
A few more people in the stands?

I dont get it. ”Hey, lets do the Monaco F1-race with automobiles from the 1890s! That would....please the drivers and the crowds!.....!”

US clearly the better team, which spells trouble for Canada because the US isn't all that great this year. Doubt Canada medals.
sweeden is the only team that looks like they could dummy every team (and that could just be because of who they have played) but any of "the 5" could probably win any 1 game against one another.

My quick thoughts....

* Didn't like the outdoor game. My opinion is it should be inside for this tourney.
* The US controlled the puck possession and the shots. The only real threats CAN mustered were on the PP.
* Penalties... don't get 'em
* Great rivalry game. Congrats to all the kids but it's that great rivalry that makes beating Canada so sweet.

I don't even see the US as the better team at all actually. I feel like this particular game wasn't indicative of anything. So far actually this game aside, Canada looks like the better team, and if I'm to pick a team out of the big 5 that is least likely to get a gold medal I think thats the US right now IMO given everything I've seen in this tournament so far from them and everyone else.
