They probably figured the USA would have locked up the game against Slovakia within 20 minutes and could just coast the rest of the way.

Decent pregame show on tsn right now.....interesting segment on whether the USA has potentially surpassed Canada as the powerhouse and a lot was based on recent showings at the world jrs.
Some valid points raised however I think the USA did to some extent benefit from a couple tournaments where Canada had questionable team selections and beyond garbage coaching.

I enjoyed the segment but I found it odd that they didn't really touch on the USNTDP and the benefit their players get from practicing and playing together so much more than our elite players can.

Best on best tournaments at the senior will always be the best gauge, however the NHL likes to mess with that as much as possible. The Jrs. is probably the best annual tournament though.

Dumb that this game is on a Friday in the middle of the day. Why not on the weekend? Would definitely help ratings and attendance.

They sold over 40K, but as TSN noted, anyone coming from Canada is probably delayed since QEW traffic was briefly closed headed towards Fort Erie because of that semi-truck catching fire.

To put things in perspective, looking at the last 6 years - out of Russia, Finland, Sweden, US and Canada, Canada has performed (arguably) the worst if you count medals. That's not really fair to say generally speaking but I find too many of us here in Canada take their team to be for sure the best. Then again, most that are super sure of that don't watch much hockey.
