Great game by Slovakia, but I do find the degree of celebration a bit strange to be honest, no matter who they beat. If you go to that length after a group stage win it's like everyone is acknowledging they don't expect more from themselves. Ask any experienced player and they'll stress the importance of not getting too high or low after games, I think the coaches should know that too.

I don't think that this is the case. The Slovak players were talking about medals before the tournament in interviews.

I think there was also a celebration in 2015 when they beat Finland in preliminary round and then they went to win bronze.

Slovak players just like to celebrate a lot, especially when there is an unexpected win.

Let's face it. Buffalo gets these tournaments because of their proximity to Canada. And the ticket prices and parking are meant to gouge the Canadians who come down for the games.

The whole point of having an outdoor game between Canada and the USA was to milk money out of Canadian consumer pockets. Rest assured the crowd at the game will most likely be 65% Canadian.

People are probably getting carried away with their criticism of him in this game, but for sure his defensive lapses were an issue. He's pretty much a fourth forward out there.
 
Dont know if it's only a finnish phrase; but team USA didnt come to the game with their jacket open, they left the jacket home..

That’s just NHL bulls***. Celebrating victories is really important for performance. Going Julius Aghahowa mid-game is another thing however...

US is actually a decent squad.....I'd say this upset is more on par with Canada's soccer team taking out either Germany or Brazil. :laugh:

Neither team is at the next World Cup so I guess it's moot. ;)

Actually it was said that 60% of the zip/postal codes for ticket buyers were located in the US.

the thing abou the world juniors is that there are no "experienced" players
 
Great game by Slovakia, congratulations. The last goal by Bucek was a very fine solo effort. I liked the US goals too, especially the Mittelstadt goal.

The effort wasn't there at all and Slovak played their game perfectly. The US frankly seemed disinterested and seemed to think they could play at half speed and save something for Canada the next day. The coach didn't seem to drill a killer instinct into them and they got beat. I knew they weren't going to win frankly after the beginning of the second. You can't play half assed and expect to win.

And people wonder why hockey has a reputation for being too bland and conservative.
These are 18-19 year-old kids. If they’re joyful after a mega upset, let ‘em go crazy with their pure emotion.
