People evaluating Dahlin after two periods of WJC...

I mean, this is expected to happen as every WJC's players get judged heavier under the microscope...but he hasn't even looked bad. As I said, he has played on both sides, and with 2-3 different defensive partners in every situation. It's quite clear he is the #1 defenseman on this team, one in which they deploy very good defensemen.

That's amazing to have that role as a 17 year old.

Dahlin's been really good. I don't know what you guys are watching.

No player is ever going to be dominant every hockey game they play and score 5 points every game they play. He's been really good, has a point, has played good defense and has been good in the transition game. Thats a quality hockey game for any defensemen.

Pettersson was playing keep away with that Belarus defender - that was amazing to watch...so much ease in his game.

He's a better hockey player than Murray already who's like 7 years older than him.
Murray at 16/17 was a very very good player. Specially at the WJC.
He is going as nr1. Svechnikov isnt good enough to overtake him
Yea, I don't see much competition either. I'm very high on Zadina and Hughes but I see them both at best going 2-4.
What? Hes a dominant player. Nothing like Murray. Murray was a safe dman who projected to be a two way #2. Not a super high ceiling but very likely to reach it. Injuries kinda derailed him though.

Dahlin projects as a dominant #1.
Murray was always projected as a #1 in the Scott Niedermeyer mold. He hasn't panned out because of injuries as you noted. Dahlin look like a solid all around guy. I haven't witnessed the dominance yet. I'm willing to be patient though.
Umm really? That's what you got from this?
I've watched him enough to formulate an opinion. This game isn't the reason why I made the statement. Another player that I see him being in the mold of is OEL. When I hear him being compared to Karlsson, it kind of makes me scratch my head. I know he's better at this age than any of those guys were but honestly , raw tools wise I don't think he has anything that pops out. He's a solid all around guy. Jack of all trades type. Which bodes very well for him because he's a dreamy pick at #1. Every team would love a guy that projects as a top pairing guy who can play at both ends of the ice. If his offense doesn't translate in the NHL, he still brings a lot of other quality tools to the table.

It's always tougher for 17 year old defenseman than 17 year old forwards. Even the best ones. It's extremely rare for a 17 year old defenseman to dominate this tournament, yet year old forwards who go in the top 5 tend to do it quite a bit.

I know everyone will expect Dahlin to dominate, but he likely won't, and everyone will come away viewing him as less of a player because of it
Cant help but make the comparison to Juolevi. He wasn't nearly the same caliber as a prospect but managed to have a very dominant showing as a 17-year-old. I expect at least the same out of Dahlin if he is a generational prospect. Is that too much?

Razzle-drizzle. Great way to gain the zone with pace, then stickhandle into a non-dangerous chance and take a penalty.

Juolevi was quite amazing in his 17 year old year. But got a lot of help for and amazing Laine and Puljujarvi. SWE does have some great forwards as well so it's possible. I didn't saw it's not possible to happen, but it shouldn't really be expected, even from a defenseman viewed as generational. It's extremely rare for any defenseman to dominate like that at 17. Juolevi was one of the few. Look at Heiskanen for example. He didn't have any real hype as a dominant defenseman this time last year so maybe not a fair comparison, but he's was ok last year but didn't really stand out. The last 2 defenseman to go 1st overall put up a combined 6 points in 14 games at their pre-draft tournament. And Dahlin are more hyped than Ekblad and Erik Johnson were, it's just really rare.
