Svechnikov has similar numbers to Kane, Tavares, McDavid and other elite of the elite offensive OHL players... Zadina doesnt even outproduce Hischier on a better team. Hes good and all but theres nothing close between the two.

Svechnikov finished the year with almost a goal per game, that kind of feat is only for the great of the great

You are overvaluing Svechnikov by comparing him to Kane, Tavares, and McDavid while your are undervaluing Zadina. Svechnikov scored at 0.91 goals/game rate while Zadina scored at 0.77 goals/game. I guess the 0.14 goal/game difference is a massive gap where Svechnikov separates himself into McDavid territory eh?

You are clearly treating Zadina like he scored 30 goals in a 68 game schedule. He got 44 goals in 57 games. The kid can score

Reactions: Grate n Colorful Oz
Gallagher Galchenyuk Drouin Lehkonen Hudon and we put Scherbak ??

RW depth: Gallagher, Scherbak, Shaw

Yeah, we have a few other left handed shooting players that can play off wing but Scherbak has been a RW throughout his development. He has the potential to be a top 6 RW forward for sure IMO. I like his game but I would like to see him get stronger to avoid injuries

Yeah it's significant, it's a 11 goal difference over 82 games and that's discounting the fact Svechnikov scored 2 goals in 7 games coming back from a broken hand.

He was at a gpg pace all year. Those are goal scoring numbers comparable to 1st overall picks.

I agree there is a gap but it's not significant.

The person you are talking to has only seen Zadina play so it's no wonder they can't separate the massive difference in quality between the 2

Zadina scored that in a much weaker league. Svech also had a wrist injury.

Even Stamkos cant hold a candle to Svechnikov in his predraft year. Hes just that good, no slights to Zadina.

I know people will say I'm crazy but I have a feeling that Carolina might reach and select Kotkaniemi in front of us. They also badly need a center and they already have good finnish players to support Kotkaniemi.

Kotkaniemi is by far the best center in this draft and all teams value center over winger I would not be surprised if they go with the best center.

If this actually happen you heard it first

Honestly, Kotkaniemi's most impressive games this year were in Liiga, not the U18's. Why his U18 performance is so important is everyone - myself included - had discounted him as a winger all season long: he got maybe 1 game at center, and the rest at ''center-wing'' or just the wing position. The U18's just confirmed that not only can he play center as a make-work solution, he's actually really good at it. It's not really a needs based argument when it unquestionably raises his value.

But it raises his value because you look at it from a needs standpoint.

If we were the Edmonton Oilers, would we want Zadina or Kotakaniemi? It wouldn't be a question, because they already have 3 great NHL centres.

No professional scouting service has Kotkaniemi above Zadina. I think his value rose as well, but not enough to pass Zadina.

He finished the year with 24 goals in 23 games and 46 points after starting it with 14 goals in 13 before breaking his hand. He basically had a tough 7 game stretch coming back. Outside of that, his numbers are comparable and better than a bunch of recent (and awesome) 1st OA picks. Putting those expectations on Zadina is completely unfair to him. He's not Svechnikov.

You are slighting Zadina when you call him a meh prospect. Just cause you are high on Svechnikov and his 44 games, it don't mean there is a major drop from him to Zadina. I think there is a gap but it's nowhere near as big as you are presenting. That is my point.

You want to talk about what each player can do when the playing field is even (you compared QMJHL vs OHL)... Svechnikov scored 2 goals in 7 games while Zadina scored 7 goals in 7 games in the U20 World Juniors. Zadina scored 2 goals and Svechnikov didn't score in the prospects game. Does this mean Zadina is better? NO! What it does show you is how these two perform when the competition gets better though! ;)

Fast forward a few years from now and I don't see much difference between these two. Edge goes to Svechnikov for sure but the gap is not significant.

just look at the Halifax euro ... Voracek Ehlers Meier Hishier they all succed so I'm not to scared for Zadina

No, but just as I said for Tkachuk, I will say for Zadina.. He's a piece of the offense but he's not the piece.

If people are expecting Zadina to come in and create a bunch of chances for himself and his linemates, that's just not going to be the case. He's mainly going to be finishing the chances he gets, either by being in the right spot, or by being the recipient of a good play or a bounce.

He's a better complimentary winger than Tkachuk, by pretty much every measure.. but he's not a dynamic play creator. Which is where the reservations come when you are expecting one with a top 3 pick.

Svechnikov meanwhile is that step above because he can do it all. He's a threat in literally every way imaginable and will make the players on his line better.

he's a goal scorer ... like Vanek so yes he is not a guy that you build your franchise around your right
