That looked more like a whiffed shot than a pass by Hughes. With the big wind up and looking square at the goalie.

I know we are stacked in goalie prospects but if O Rodrigue is available with our late 2nd, I would draft him. When he is age 23, Price is in year 6 of his 8 year contract. I’m high on him.. reminds me of Quick

Even though we already have Lindgren/Hawkey/Primeau I am in favour of drafting another goalie. Rodrigue/Hofer/Tendeck this year, or make a run for Wolf/Ellis/Maier/Basran next year

If we were trading down.

Dobson is dropping for me. He looks like a real solid 2 way guy in a McDo way. Sure we can use such a player but though there is much more risk to find a player like that in other rounds, they exist. Boqvist I think brings that as an example in terms of D, and I am more comfortable with him than Hughes.

Trading down for me the tempting target is Kotkaniemi because I'm thinking 1C potential. Not elite, but 1C potential is good enough for me. I had thought of him stylistically as a Kopitar , though I had read ROR some other place, but Button also says Kopitar, and Toews.

Hard part of trading down a few spots is you dont know if the guy is going to be there. Kotkaniemi all of a sudden at different sites is ranked 8 -10, but also mid first, and later . Wide band, who really knows , could he go 6 , 7 , 12 or 15 ?

With trading down... you have to have several targets. Chances are, one or two will be available. It’s the year to do it. We need a GM to be high on Zadina!

- Target the Oilers.. Patch for their 10th pick and a 2019 or 2020 conditional pick if he re-signs.

- Target the Blackhawks for their 9th pick. Pretty sure they would love to get Zadina! Our 3rd for their 9th and we take their 2019 1st if it’s 15+ range. If 15- range, we take their 2019 2nd.

Pretty sure we can get two of Wahlstrom, Hughes, Smith, Dobson, Bouchard! And we are still left with our 4-2nd’s and another solid add to the 2019 draft!

That was a whiffed shot by Hughes, was not a slam dunk for Wahlstrom. But Hughes should have been passing to him , he sucks for not passing it. :sarcasm:

Agree! These kids will take years to be ready and we can also possibly dangle them in trades. Draft best available and see where you stand in a few years. Things change!

We would need 2 top 10 picks to grab 2 of those guys and nobody has that. Right now , I think I would only trade down if its to get Kotkaniemi, and very good chance he isnt there at 9 or 10.

I dont think its luck at all, i think it has a lot to do with assessing what youre going to be able to do with a player and doing it.

2012 was a statement of this, but they drafted the wrong player. They took the project with high upside instead of the players whove developped themselves in FF and Lindholm.
All of those players still have a major amount of development to do before they reach their full potential and no one knows at what point that development ceases and the game gets too fast for them to effectively process what's happening around them. That's the luck part of drafting kids that are at different levels of physical and mental development.

I was very disappointed with yesterday's lottery and I am sure Dahlin is/was as well. In Sweden a number one young player would never go to the worst team in the league given we don't have draft lotteries. His agent might have prepared him that's the way hockey is over here but to end up in that toilet of a team. I hope he stays in Frölunda.

Buffalo has some real Oilers crap going on.
Its not Eichels team no more, more over Jack.

There should really be some kind of tanking protection... its not normal that Edmonton can get 4 first overall, Sabres win Eichel and Dahlin... its actual f***ing bullshit and im still incredibly bitter.

f***.

If we are taking a W, the truth of the matter is, unless it's Svech (low possibility), we are stuck with a prospect who's going to need a superstar C to unlock their true potential and we aren't going to have that.

It gives us the possibility to trade Pacioretty for one tho

My new list:

1 - Dahlin
2 - Svechnikov
3 - Zadina
4 - Hughes
5 - Boqvist
6 - Kotkaniemi
7 - Wahlstrom
8 - Dobson
9 - Bouchard
10 - Kravtsov
11- Tkachuk
12 - Farabee
13 - Smith
14 - Sandin
15 - Kupari

Kotkaniemi is very high on your list. Why has he moved up over time for you ?
