That's right. Zadina is not the clear BPA.

It's equally disingenuous to suggest Dobson is BPA over "immediate need" Zadina. If anyone should be labelled as BPA over Zadina, it's Tkachuk, not Dobson. Only 1/10 had Tkachuk out of their top 5, while 6/10 had Dobson out of their top 5.

BPA is entirely fluid based on the scouting group you are talking about. It only makes sense when you are talking about prospects who are clearly on different tiers. It's like when Smith is on the board and all the other top 11 are gone.. not taking him would indicate you didn't take BPA because you have now reached down a tier.

Within the tiers, the term BPA really depends on what skills, traits, positional value attributes matter most to a team. A team who plays a heavy game will certainly favor Tkachuk over Wahlstrom. Where teams who favor pure skill would have Wahlstrom ahead in theory.

Hey Habs fans,

Seeing the ROR rumors out there, would MTL have any interest in trading w/ NYR? I know for a fact we can beat that package.

Hayes, the 9th OA, the 28th OA ... essentially 3 firsts

Timmins just had a live video on Facebook

They want players no matter WHERE they come from. So that should make TVA and RDS mad.

Timmins said Brady himself doesn't see himself as a C. so there you go.

For my top 93, I decided to do things a bit differently. A cursory glance will show that I didn't include several big names. I don't necessarily have this players are no drafts, only I'm far lower on them than the rest of the world. If I'm too much lower on a player than the rest of the world, I just cut them from the list. Essentially, I'm just not willing to pay the price to get them. The first list contains only first year eligibles, and no goalies. The second list contains only draft re-entries. The third list contains the most loathsome position, goaltenders, one of whom is a re-entry.

Couple notes: David Gustafsson fell quite a bit from where I had him all season. I decided to put him as low as possible while still being ahead of the highest ranking of whom I am aware. Between the ears, he is a first round talent. But let's get the best price for him. O'Brien vs Morozov: this is one of those situations where I want both, so I adjusted my ranking to reflect the reality of where you will be able to pick these players. How to mix the lists? Up to you, but I feel pretty strongly about my rankings until the 50's. After that point you can take what you want from any of them.

Great lists, thanks for sharing it ! There's 2 McShane in the first list (67 and 82). And who are the guys you have far lower than everybody (those not on list). I can think of Groulx, Merkley, McIsaac, but other than that ? Nice and bold to see Berggren at 11, we would be SO lucky if we could grab him early 2nd round or even trade up to get him late 1st !

Hey Ranger fan -- no. Don't trust Gorton, he's a shark. And our guy, well ... let's not talk about it.

It's more fine-grained than what you're suggesting. I doubt there's a team who would take Wahlstrom (or any of the last 3) over Tkachuk, regardless of preferred style. Only 1/10 polled had Tkachuk out of their top 5.

All these biases you mentioned are already factored in to the rankings. For example, the positional bias of scouts was likely at play to land Kotka at #5, but it still wasn't enough to vault him to #3. Despite a league-wide love for 2-way, minute-eating defensemen, and big centers with all the tools, two wingers still top the list in "Tier 3". If they were all so close that it comes down to team preference - in this league, in 2018 - then it would be centers and d-men at the top of the list.

The only reason you wouldn't do the deal I suggested is if you don't trust your org to draft well.

We're in a phase where most of us don't trust our management, period. Status quo is best course of action in order to buy time for the next GM.

Oh come on man, have a little faith :sarcasm:

Lol

Ott, Martinsen, Flynn, Streit, Alzner, King ... and so much more deadwood.

The same people who brought us these gems are still advising Bergevin on the pro scouting side. Only 4 part time scouts have been replaced on the amateur side, it's the same contingent basically. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Gorton is a better horsetrader than Bergevin, he'd own him.

I can understand that. Either way, the offer is MORE than fair and I know for a fact NYR would be open for business.

I've seen Brooksie's pieces, your guy is actively seeking deals. At least you won't get fleeced.

The Rangers have put themselves in a position to be successful for a long time. Having 10 picks in this draft (3 in the first round) + 30M in cap space + 5 RFA's that are quite attractive to other teams is a nice pool to improve the long term outlook of the franchise.

I particularly like the fact that the NYR announced their colors and acted accordingly. No BS. You can only set yourself up to trade for missing pieces down the line without overpaying if you have accumulated quality organizational depth. It reduces your reliance on the UFA market which more often than not carries a huge downside risk.

One would think that he’s come to the conclusion that deadwood just don’t burn good.......needs to stockpile on oak and maple, leave the waterlogged poplar pieces behind.

Bergy’s last line of defence on Hf hangs on the success of this draft and his moves.....29.5hrs to go

I'm glad you've put a timer on him except that we're really only going to know how well he's drafted, 2-3 years from now. Are we really going to wait that long to find out if he's gotten it right?

The better barometer on the short term will be how he manages his trades, UFA signings if any and the Cap in the next year. And whether he's traded away any futures for a short term run, which would be completely insane.
