Where would Groulx, Fortier, Bernard and Bouchard start being decent picks for you?

Groulx isn't a pick until the fourth round. Fortier is a 5th-6th.. Bernard and Bouchard in that same area.

I wouldn't draft any of them though. Too many better guys likely available there.

It's a shame since recently the Q had some great crops. Cycles down this year but will be back next two years imo.

I wouldn't pick them at any point that they will realistically go. I'm expecting Groulx to go at some point in the 2nd, Fortier 4-5 and Bernard + Bouchard a tad later.

But i am expecting at least one to be picked this draft. We can't have so many picks and not come away with one Quebec boy.

Perfect.

To be completely blunt outside of Beaudin and Rodrigue, there is nothing in this draft for Quebec. Veleno will make it but too high for what he brings.

They are going to pick a Xavier Bernard at some point on Saturday. And 4 Russians... Don't get me wrong--I'd be delighted if they picked nothing but Russian centermen in the hope that one would be this year's Kutznesov. Not gonna happen with our forward thinking management group.

We likely won't do it, but the list strengthens my belief in the viability of moving back, taking Hayton and picking up another 2nd-rounder.

No surprise to me he rose in the rankings yet again.

Because they watch all the players carefully, have a ton of experience in their trade and know a helluva lot more than the masses on HF Boards.
Ah yes the brilliant scouts who are impervious to ranking big physical players far higher than they should be ranked.

Just a reminder that they had Crouse and Zacha ahead of Provorov, Werenski, Barzal, Rantanen and Connor in 2015 on Bob's list. Clearly masters of their craft.

I'm not high on Groulx either but 4th round? A bit of a stretch don't you think? We will see. I would not be upset if we take him at 62 or 66 but I would be if we take him 35 or 38. Not sure what I would think if we took him 56th. Depends on who is available at that point i guess.

28 goals in 68 games. For as much as I think he is more of a safe pick vs a guy with upside, I think he gets picked from 25-40 range. I'd be extremely surprised he slips to the 4th round.

I personally rather take Kotkaniemi who has more upside. Hayton is similar to Poehling. 2nd/3rd line center potential. Kotkaniemi has #1C upside. However, that all depends on what we get for moving down to take Hayton.

I'm expecting Beaudin with one of our two early seconds.

Third line?

You know there's good reasons Hayton has done nothing but rise in the rankings all season.

You can watch clips, but if you think that's the end product, I'd say you're wrong.

He's risen because he's demonstrated skill, smarts, an all-round game, and most importantly, steady progress. Watching him live enough it's not hard to see this and conclude the kid is going to continue to grow. His development pattern is anything but static.

Nope... I said 2nd/3rd similar to how Poehling is today. What do you think? He is a for sure 2nd line center? Or 1st line?

I think so, based on what I have seen I expect he'll be a No. 2, minimum yes.

Just like with Poehling, I'm not prepared to label Hayton a for sure 2nd line center. I don't think he is a #1C but I do think he has a good shot at 2nd or 3rd line center. I'm not throwing him under the bus, I just rather target a guy like Kotkaniemi who has bigger upside and #1C potential.

And I fully understand that. I just posted what I consider a very viable option to it.

Some believe we have enough seconds; I'm not in that group.

I like the array of talent in round two, and believe there will be disappointments, but five whacks at the mole is better than four, or...use two of five to get another first.

Two firsts and three seconds would be very cool.

Tabbing Kotkaneimi and having him progress to No. 1 on the depth chart clearly would be also.

Using our 3rd overall??????

I hope this is not what you’re suggesting!!!
