Quotables on Tkachuk just blow my mind, I don't see it.. other than a few who admit he's complimentary.

Thomas review was reminsifent of discussions here. Bunch of scouts saying they never saw him play a good game and a couple others say he's got top end skill everywhere just has to put it together consistently.

Veleno comments are comparable to mine. He's a third liner. Can't score. Mike McLeod type.
Would be interested to read the Tkachuk quotes :)

He's got some great tools, but he's not on the Barkov level, Barkov is a bull. I think the real key for Kotkaniemi is for his skating to develop as Combined with his length and skills would make him a monster on the rush.
Can’t agree more, I really feel like that if he works on in agility, his starts and his balance he could be a #1C. Honestly as an 17 years old still he is so impressive. Im buying him at #3.

I have long thought he's the guy the Red Wings want. Just a gut feeling.

Traditionally the Red Wings take guys who are more actual and less potential... but that may be changing. I was thinking that they would be in love with Zadina and Bouchard, because those guys are pretty easy to project.

So here is my first round list. I want to get it out before Bob's list is released. I'm no scout but have seen most of these guys once at the very least. I would like to see peoples list before Bob releases his. I'm sure mine isnt close but again I'm no professional.

The new Lidstrom (not really, but you know what I mean).

Well, I'm super-familiar with Hayton and Sandin, and you've nailed it on both, IMO.

Looked at some lists at HF yesterday and one had Hayton at 29 and Sandin at 45.

In an alternative universe, maybe so.

If they really want to go defence at three, Dobson is the answer.

On a personal note, i would find that unsexy as i prefer when we draft a forward than a dman in first round, 'cause i prefer watching the developement of a foward. Just personnal preference.

But Dobson's gonna be a good one.

Agreed.

Barkov was a beast. Went ppg in Liiga as one of the youngest players in the draft. He was already on his 2nd WJC and went over ppg there too.

I don't think it's a fait comparison. Barkov is more than his points, he's a dominant force with Datsyukian hands.

Yeah, Sasha and Jesperi haven't really been doing the same kind of stuff since they were 15. You could try to make the case that Jesperi has been derailed by injuries from keeping pace with Barkov, but I'm not going to do it. Barkov would be a dream come true for us. Jesperi tries to play like him for a reason.

If you believe Kotkaniemi has no chance of being as good as Barkov you dont pick him 3rd. Its the same as the Matthews comparison, Jesperi certainly has the talent for it, Barkov/Matthews just came into their assets sooner. Kotkaniemi seems to be on track to that group of elite Cs to me.
