Also from reading that Q & A I think the Finn center, who really didn't play much center this season but is projected to be a center, will very likely be a Hab on draft day. Sounds kinda like another Galchenyuk scenario if you ask me. If you swing and miss on this draft Marc you should be all but done as the Habs GM but if I had my way you would already be gone. Just don't **** this very important draft up.

Here's MB's quote about Drouin at center for anyone who didn't see the Q&A. ****ing Hypocrite.

Several posters are saying there isn't much difference between those projected to go between 3-8 in the first round. I'm just hoping that Kotkaniemi will be evaluated on his own merits and that the fact that there aren't any other quality Cs ranked in the top 10 will have no bearing on the final decision for the Habs.

And that very well might be the case since I don't really follow draft eligible players closely and only read opinions here and from the draft "experts" out there and their draft rankings. It's just reading what MB said about players not being drafted where people think they might go and their huge need at center the Finn seems to fit the bill.

But then again he also mentions speed, speed, speed and from what I've read some seem to have issues with Kotkaniemi's skating but I don't know if that's accurate.

I guess someone must've clued MB in sometime during last season that speed is where the NHL is going because that doesn't explain trading for slow Weber and then signing slow Alzner for 5 years. Not to mention trading for the slowest player ever in smiling Dwight King, Martinsen, and Ott at the deadline 2 years ago. This GM really as no plan and is just making things up as he goes.

According to numerous reports the Habs will not trade the 3rd overall pick. It is speculated that we will draft one of the three wingers after Dahlin.

Alex Svechnikov
Filip Zadina
Brady Tkachuk

As per TSN

Hearing Bergy talk it sounds like he might go a bit off the board. He was saying how it's not the best player NOW that he wants, it's the best player in 5 years that he's looking for. Tkachuk draft threat level upped to orange!!

Kotkaniemi is such a Timmins pick, its so sad weve been forced into this Zadina or bust position. Wort outcome possible outside of falling outside the top 10.

First time I see that.

Saw many names pitched for the 3rd overall, of course mainly Zadina, but others as well.

Seems more like a projection by those who don't want Zadina there (for whatever reasons)

I like Zadina... hes gonna be a 30 30 kinda guy, surefire top 6er, but hes not a sexy pick. Kotkaniemi and Boqvist are the sexy picks, Hughes too.

I don't know why you say he's not a sexy pick, he sure was clutch as hell in the U20, everytime he entered the opposing zone he was creating something. Just a dangerous offensive player, who happens to have a good work ethic to boot.

Unless you mean he isn't a sexy pick cause he's 'safer' than the others, or something like that ?

And just to be sure, I wouldn't mind Kotkaniemi, even though I think he's being overhyped lately, Wahlstrom would be nice too, wouldn't even mind Tkachuk (even though what he projects isn't our direst need).

I'd prefer a forward over a D, even though I wouldn't mind those you named, plus Dobson, cause we need one with Top-2 potential, after we traded Sergachev...

Only thing that would bother me, would be a reach, like Veleno or Hayton or Farabee...

So yeah, some, like you, push Kotkaniemi, and that's fine, but, there are so many 'nice' choices at 3, I don't think we're going to be disappointed at all. (well I hope so)

Ya I don't understand how anyone can view Zadina as a unsexy pick. He's the most skilled player in this draft.

Not saying he's isn't viewed in this way, for some reason he is, I just don't get why.

I suspect there's little chance of MB reaching for Kotkaniemi at #3.

I think a deal involving Pacioretty for a 10-15 pick is more likely, in which case he'll grab Kotkaniemi - or another center like Kupari or *gasp* Veleno.

He'll try to fill the LD position with a trade.

People saying Tkachuk is a bust are so weird. You don't need to always be hyperbolic. I agree he shouldn't go top 5 but calling him a bust is just dumb.

I think this is the result of an anti McCarron sentiment. There was a time when Habs only wanted size and physicality because we had such small fast teams. Now any throwback to those times seems to send people into a fury of past frustration.

On it’s own, would it be so bad to have a rookie get these type of numbers?

By all accounts, both brothers are very similar with Brady being the bigger of the two.

If the Habs pass on Zadina who seems like the consensus 3rd pick from many mock drafts for someone not expected to go 3rd the Sens and the other teams will be very happy since someone will fall to them. The Habs just need to get this 3rd pick and this draft right and can't afford to take too much of a risk especially with the 3rd pick IMO.

I still think if they're not interested in taking Zadina @ 3 they should see if they can trade back a few spots to gain other assets and still get the player they want instead of maybe reaching at 3 for the player they want. Just get it right is all I ask.

If we're looking at five years down the line, that makes Boqvist a real possibility. If the Habs are willing to be patient, there aren't many players with a higher ceiling.

Most skilled? What?

Zadina isnt sexy because a first line winger is not a need and is easily obtainable.
I'm actually not trying to disagree with you, he is being viewed as the "unsexy" pick on this board.

I'm just saying I don't get why. I think, as you said, it's because he's a winger, as well the fact he's not a hot rising name makes him a bit too familiar and overanalyzed.

I think if you asked anyone on this board in January if they would take Zadina in this draft, the consensus answer would be "are you crazy? No way do we have a shot at him."

Yeah it's clearly that which of course is illogical.

Projecting players should ALWAYS be the strategy at the draft...

Anyone can identify the best junior aged players...it's a whole other to project which junior aged players will be the best 3-4-5+yrs down the line.

Tkatchuk is the most NHL ready guy outside of Dahlin, if anything, those type of comments would point to a skilled player that needs developping over a 3rd liner type like Tkatchuk.
