If the Habs pass on Zadina who seems like the consensus 3rd pick from many mock drafts for someone not expected to go 3rd the Sens and the other teams will be very happy since someone will fall to them. The Habs just need to get this 3rd pick and this draft right and can't afford to take too much of a risk especially with the 3rd pick IMO.

I still think if they're not interested in taking Zadina @ 3 they should see if they can trade back a few spots to gain other assets and still get the player they want instead of maybe reaching at 3 for the player they want. Just get it right is all I ask.

That's pretty much what I also think, if you want to get 'risky', trade down, a guy like Kotkaniemi/Dobson will probably still be there around 5-10, no need to reach.

I don't get people saying Zadina wouldn't be a 'Bergevin' pick though, he's skilled and has a good work ethic, isn't the fastest but is strong on his skates, he sure isn't an enigma.

Most skilled? What?

Zadina isnt sexy because a first line winger is not a need and is easily obtainable.

If Zadina is so easily obtainable, he should fall into the 8th OA draft slot. What are the odds of that?

Winger or not, if they have a chance at a surefire top line player, they should pick him. There aren't many of these in this draft. Dahlin, Sveshnikov, Zadina ... and probably Boqvist and Hughes as well. The last 2 are a bit more boom / bust, so I believe this will not end up being the top 5.

The rest ... of course there will be 1st liners among them, but none I'd be willing to bet on a this point. I could see Whalstrom, Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi, Dobson finding a place on a 2nd line / pairing.

A little something different today. A look at pick value charts.

The 2018 NHL Entry Draft is just around the corner. As picks are traded up down and around, one of the things you’re likely to see is draft pick value charts. These have been done before by many people, and the general idea is to put one number value on each draft slot. From there, it’s easy to compare which picks are likely to yield more value relative to the other picks. Since this has been done before, today let’s look at draft pick value charts through a different lens, creating a draft pick value chart strictly for strong links.

I'm actually not trying to disagree with you, he is being viewed as the "unsexy" pick on this board.

I'm just saying I don't get why. I think, as you said, it's because he's a winger, as well the fact he's not a hot rising name makes him a bit too familiar and overanalyzed.

I think if you asked anyone on this board in January if they would take Zadina in this draft, the consensus answer would be "are you crazy? No way do we have a shot at him."

We were a basement team since the beginning of the season.. so we have always had a shot at him.

He's not the most skilled prospect and he does not have the best hands or anything. I actually can't think of one thing in which Zadina beats another prospect out. Goal scoring which is his best trait, you can argue easily that Svech and Wahlstrom are ahead of him there.

Hearing Bergy talk it sounds like he might go a bit off the board. He was saying how it's not the best player NOW that he wants, it's the best player in 5 years that he's looking for. Tkachuk draft threat level upped to orange!!

after reading this I thought: Kotkaniemi

You're free to think what you want, but Bob McKenzie has stated that NHL scouts view Zadina as the drafts best goal scorer and the most skilled player in the draft, so you're in the minority.

If either of those statements were true then he would be viewed as a potential 1 in the draft or at very least number 2 over Svech.

Seems like we are not trading 3 which I think is a mistake. Can someone please make an argument how any of Zadina, Wahlstrom, Boqvist, Hughes, Dobson, Kotkaniemi are a good bit better than the other? I seriously can't, trade down ffs.

He's got the best puck skills in this draft. He's not the size/speed freaks that Dahlin and Svechnikov are, but his hands and shot combination is the best. The closest guy to him is Wahlstrom IMO.
Nah Svechnikov and Dahlin have the best puck skills by far. Couple that with their athleticism and size and thats why theyre generational/exceptional.

That is what makes them so special, especially when combined with their tremendous skill level. Zadina doesn't have that on them, but he is a bit more skilled IMO. But regardless, this is an unquantifiable argument so am happy to move on.

A guy like Iskhakov could be argued to be more talented than Zadina, especially if you consider puck skills.. it's when you bring other aspects of a player into equation that has Iskhakov as a long shot home run swing vs. a sure fire NHL sniper.

Because if you really love a player, why trade down and take a risk of not getting him? Especially when you have four 2nd rounders.

I get that some people find these guys interchangeable, but that’s not how NHL teams think. Their rankings are not interchangeable. 3rd best is 3rd best. Bergevin did say it best, when you suffer through a whole season to get this pick, why be satisfied with a consolation prize? Is a fifth 2nd rounder really going to make a difference?

Iskhakov xertainly has the hands but i wouldnt say he has the shot to rival with Zadina.

But anyway, i dont see any argument for Zadina over Dahlin and Svech in pure skills, athleticism or not. Boqvist is another one that comes to mind that checks every boxes.

If you clear see a BPA at 3, then I agree, but I don't and I'm wondering why some may have a clear #3. A 5th 2nd rounder is an extra asset. 5 2nds is absolutely insane, but you just get another shot at getting a player that ends up being a good nhl player.

Where did you find it? You in MTL? The local multimags has the June edition, but no draft preview... It's total crap, but it's fun to have a list... and photos!
I bought it at a multimag at Rockland Centre in TMR, but you can probably find it in a lot of places where they sell mags. I got both the draft preview and the June edition

I had the same thought while reading the that bit but thinking more about it why would MB tip his hand. Maybe he's just preparing Hab fans for an off the board pick that not many expect to go @ 3.

Although it's probably best not to read much into anything this guy says anymore since he always talks out of both sides of his mouth and I believe nothing he says anymore.

Don't waste your money on THN. It's not good. It's really just designed for casual fans who only want a very limited report on players.

Spend the extra money to get Blackbook. You will get game reports, quotables from scouts, in depth scouting reports.
