I have no idea who the Habs will pick. Well almost....everybody knows Philippe Lapointe will be a Habs.

OT but I got drunk with Guyot Lapointe a few years ago at University of Michigan and I told him to tell his dad to trade Desharnais. He said DD was good but we needed to trade Prust, Prust trade happened a few weeks after.

I want to reopen the Boqvist v Hughes debate.

I'd be fine with Hughes at 3, but he's almost a full year older than Boqvist. His season should be compared with Hughes' last year.

Boqvist basically had a carbon copy of Karlssons D year.

Hedman aside (who Dahlin also had a very similar D year), Boqvist compares favorably to the top Swedish Ds. Add that to his smart, cerebral game, his shot and his skating and he's still a legit option at 3.

Boqvist, Kotkaniemi, Hughes, Dobson, Wahlstrom and Zadina all are, probably in that order. They're pretty much equal prospects as far as I'm concerned.

What do you guys think of Alexander Khovanov with one of our 2nd round picks?

Playmaking center. Likely to fall due to illness in his draft year. But very very explosive and offensive player. It seems like he's high risk, high reward type of guy. Anybody followed him in Moncton this year?

Yeah but I think he has shown more against tougher competition imo. They are dead even.

Pass. I was high on him before but I didn't find him impressive whatsoever.

When you talk about something too much you can wrap yourself up pretty goid and not see the forest for the trees.

Before we got 3rd OA was Zadina not 3rd OA around here, and on a separate tier from 4thOA ?

Is there a reason he is no longer that in fact, or is it just us over complicating things ?
I truly believe that to be so.

I think a major reason for it was that we won moved up in the lottery only to end up with the third pick. For everyone watching it felt like a disappointment despite the fact we are now picking 3rd instead of 5th/6th/7th as we were expected to (over 50%).

He's not explosive, he needs to improve his foot speed.

He's worth one of our late seconds as he might have been a first rounder if not for his hepatitis. It really depends whos available. Id draft SDA ahead of him.

Who's SDA?

Well, after reading this MB's interview, I'd say that Kotkaniemi is a real possibility at 3 when MB answering a question about lack of C depth at the top of the draft talks about projection of who would be the best player down the road and not necessarily the best player today and picking a guy who was not projected to go that high.

Another point we can see from the interview is that a trade down is not likely. This surprising openness could be due to their new "transparency policy" as well as the fact that Jesperi is virtually guaranteed to be available at 3. Should we start ordering Kotkaniemi's jerseys already? :)

"But after that, you have to decide and project. Doesn't mean the guy is the best player today; it's who will be the best in five years. That's why in the draft, teams pick other players who weren't projected to go in certain spots. Sometimes a team will pick someone with an early pick and you'll say, 'Wow, that was a surprise.' And then down the road, you find out that, yeah, it was a really good pick."
Canadiens unlikely to trade No. 3 pick at NHL Draft

Well when Bergevin mentioned the late birthday and projecting longterm growth in the interview, it pointed to Kotkaniemi. But when he said “speed speed speed” it points elsewhere. Boqvist falls under both criteria. I don’t know what to think anymore.

It's all meant to throw off the other GMs, just happy there was nothing about attitude/character so I'm less in fear of Tkachuk

Kind of went in circles talking about JD at centre tho

I think speed is mentioned in the context of the current team and that we are a fast team. The quote pointing to Kotkaniemi is a direct answer to the C question. Boqvist was ranked 5th in Bob's January rankings so it would not be much of a reach from that point of view.

And everyone has to give me credit for stealing him in the 3rd for the mock.

I don't know about that mock. I tried on two occasions to get participants to give up their no-draft lists, to no avail.

As far as I'm concerned, that draft never happened. :sarcasm:

I'm sure we will bitch and complain once Timmins takes a terrible gamble instead of a guy like Ishkakov so you will know then. Almost there.

It's true. We had just under a 33% chance of staying put or moving up. But when we found out we had won, we had even odds of it being any of the top 3 picks, and there we got the worst result, so it felt like a loss.

Bergevin is the biggest hypocrite in the world so to me, he will pick Tkachuk.

He's slow.
He's older than the class.
His projection is not far from what he already is.

The comments about Drouin are completely hypocritical of what he did with Galchenyuk.

Basically everything MB says he does the opposite. He's like George Costanza except the opposite of everything he says is enormously detrimental.

He's bad. Small, poor skater, has a good shot and decent playmaking skills, only really effective on the PP.
