As long as you also think Morozov is better than Hayton

All kidding aside, I do like Morozov and he's been a bit of the glue that holds Marchenko and Iskhakov together. He's actually been Russians best U18 center. But, he's the least skilled of the three and there's higher upside elsewhere I'd target with our 2nds, those two included.

Caser had a nice comparison for him: Maltsev. A player I'd be happy if we drafted (there's quite a few this year), but that I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get.

Hayton I'm not sure what to think anymore. He was one of my favorites, but he's so bland at times that he's taken a fall. I do think there's an NHLer there though, so he's still in my top 31.

1A) Wyatte Wylie
1B) / 2) Filip Kral
3) Dawson Barteaux
4) Libor Zabransky
5) Chase Hartje

Wylie's my favourite, does everything right, jack of all trades.

Kral is fantastic offensively but he can still step it up

Barteaux did very well on a less than average Rebels team and I think he has a lot of potential

Zabransky was great but his second half was less than spectacular, dropped my ranking a bit

Hartje looks great but I'd like to see more of him, especially on his new team

Wylie's intriguing for sure. I bought some Silvertips games to watch Bajkov and Sutter, but he ended up standing out. I'm not sure about his offensive upside but man, he was a rock in the games I saw. He's not the tallest but he's a brick on skates.

I dont think that is as true as people would like it to be. The competition difference and the comparables in league directory are just not showing this. I think it fluctuates and that draft top draft eligibles and draftees change that yeat to year.

There used to be a series of games between NCAA all-stars, CIS (then called CIAU allstars) and CHL All-stars.

More often then not, the NCAA or CIS guys won.

Cause age, strength, development.

Its just like the World Junior Camp. The Canadian team plays against the CIS allstars during the december tryout camp every year, and every year people are shocked that the 23-24 year old, former CHL players who were ok, but not great, they beat the World Junior kids.

Merkley's skills are crazy. I hope someone straightens him out, and I hope its the Habs. I could see him being available in the second.

Yah McBain was superb against Belarus, but he and Veleno are sort of "meh" against Swiss - 17 year-olds, eh.
Merkely may have crazy skills, but man he sometimes pulls some real head-scratchers back there. Habs should tread carefully and decide if they have the staff to work with him.

In the second round, who cares? Only ~20% of 2nd rounders crack the NHL anyways

Without watching any of those guys, I want Wylie just because of his name.

He's a snore fest out there, offensively. I don't really see much offense in him.

That's the knock, but that could be another layer of his game that will develop over the next couple years. He's been behind the big line (Raddish-Frost-Katchouk) and still put up PPG over the regular season. Offense isn't his calling card, but I think once he becomes "the man" in SSM, we'll see some big numbers from him.

Wylie ahead of Kral? This kid better be amazing. What do you see him as should he make the NHL?

A superb 3D. Imagine a smaller Hampus Lindholm (although I doubt he'll get that good). Rock solid in all defensive aspects and able to put up some points. Probably 20-30 point guy maximum at the NHL level. It's rare for a defenseman to stand out to me for his defensive play. While Kral outproduced Wylie by a fair margin he also has the luxury of spending much of his ice time with Ty Smith (73 pts) and Jaret Anderson-Dolan (91 pts), both huge offensive forces. Wylie is usually paired with Jake Christiansen (31 points) and his forwards are Sean Richards (49 pts) and Riley Sutter (53 points)

Their playoff performances also really affected my ranking. Kral put up a big fat 0 points and -1 rating in 5 games, while Wylie so far has 6 points in 12 games and +12, shutting down some very skilled players such as Cody Glass and Kieffer Bellows.

I'd take them both in the 50-70 range.

Dude's got a slick haircut too

Very skilled 2-way foward playing with a high level of intensity, I really like this kid, at worst a very good second line player...

I've enjoyed watching Farabee play as much as anyone so far in the U18s, but there's just no way that his worst case scenario as an NHLer is as a very good 2nd liner. That's just nuts.

care to elaborate? He already plays a strong 200 ft game, he is very fast has a good shot, great PKer, there is nothing to dislike about this kid... Ive been following the U18 USA squad for a while and Im pretty confident in my projection here..

I was watching this live on Sportsnet, mainly to watch Verbeek, who at the time was just signed by Habs. I remember watching this goal and even though it was the 8th goal of an 8-0 blow out, I still jumped off my seat. Greyhounds had their way with Saginaw in that series.

It was reported that Bergevin did go watch Greyhounds during these playoffs and it may have been to scout Hayton and Sandin.
