I’m not a Brady Tkachuk apologist but I find it funny when people compare his production to Hughes and say “Hughes is the youngest player in the NCAA and a defenceman!”

Well Tkachuk is just a month older and the second youngest in the NCAA, yet no one brings that up. And if Hughes wasn’t putting up great offensive numbers, he’d be a pretty useless defenceman at 5’9.

Sixteen months is huge at that age. Like I said the vast majority of Quinn's peers don't even make it to the tournament. Hard to fault a player for making it to the wjc as a draft eligible prospect when the only other top ranked defenseman that made it was Dahlin...

He's a late birthday, so plenty of 99 born players made WJHC. You really need to compare him to players drafted last year, he could be almost 11 months older than some players who will be drafted this year.

I can't wait for Bob's list to come out. Both Morozov and Shafigullin were unranked on the last one. I like Shafigullin with Toronto's pick and Morozov with our 3rd unless Bob's list says otherwise. Specifically, if Shafi's average rank is higher than 56, then we know at least one team has him at least as high as 56, and we should take him earlier if we want him.

If they're still unranked? Sheeeeeit.
Id pick Shafi with the first 2nd if Berggren, Tycho and a few others are off the table.

Value-wise, sure, but IMO, players should be drafted as late as possible. The Toronto pick is notably ahead of Tampa's 2nd pick unless Toronto is a conference finalist. I think they'd be the biggest risk to take him.

Morozov would be such a great selection for our terrible C depth in the organization. Shafigulin is about as pure an offensive talent as you can find.

Ideally if we could walk out if Wahlstrom or Boqvist, Sandin or Lundkvist and Berggren or Hallander, Shafigulin, Morozov. That would be hnggg

Youre playing a dangerous game if thats what you do. Im not that much of a gambling man.

Theres a pool of like 60 or 70 players i love that i aint gonna be mad if we come out with at any spots, not counting the first 20ish locks. Its going to be a great draft.

We could be looking at sending this bag of shit of a prospect pool straight to contention for first in the league with a single draft, thats so damn great.

I was hoping for more from Tychonick in the u-18s he hasn't shown much offense to his game.

There's a handful of prospects I've been hoping for more from but that's the reality of a tournament like this. There are young players who are used to being the guy on their team to being just one of the guys on this team.

But I think it's a big tournament for guys from smaller leagues like the BCHL. Olofsson had some flashes last night but as far as projecting him, well he's produced against men. So that eases your questions more than a BCHL player who's not really breaking out against equal talent peers.

Would be just awesome if we got Fonstad with our last second and Morozov with our 3rd.

I prefer Hillis to Fonstad. I like Fonstad too but Hillis is such a gifted playmaker. He doesn't get a lot of ice with Canada but whenever he has the puck, he always makes the right pass or an incredible pass. That's a player I can work with.

do you guys really compere Mete and Hughes ??

they compare in the sense both are undersized and have elite skating. But with Mete it's more a question of his offensive upside and with Hughes it's more a question of his defensive upside. I look at Mete as a possible 2nd pairing D that if his offensive game doesn't develop he's more of a 3rd pairing D. I look at Hughes as having top pairing upside but if his defensive game doesn't improve he'll be more of a 2nd pairing D.

Just going off the games I saw of both, Hughes was always making things happen on the ice, Tkachuk was invisible. In the end I don't get worked up over who we draft as I'm not a big draft guy and only go off what I see and even then I don't really focus on them since they aren't Hab prospects at the time. That said Hughes impressed the hell out of me, so if I were making the pick and it was between Hughes or Tkachuk, I would pick Hughes without even blinking. Now if you say well you have Mete, can you really have two undersized d in your top 4 and contend (down the road) then that's at least a fair question and something to consider but Hughes just seems too good to me to pass up on.

Hughes also out produced Tkachuk in the USHL games for the USNDTP both with the U-18 and U-17 teams.

Where Fonstad gets the edge for me is his skating. He's a gifted playmaker in his own right, too.

ok fiouu because they are far away at the same level ..

Smith hasn't played his best so far. He looked better last game on some occasions. There was one play late in the first where he was between the hashmarks and the right point and as he got a pass from across the blue line, he one-timed it to an open Noel in front for a great chance.

But there were some miscues in his play that you normally don't see from him. Still plenty of time left though.

Most NCAA teams would beat CHL teams, for the same reason that overage players thrive in the CHL. Older, bigger, stronger... you are talking about a league that is 16-20 vs a league that is 18 - 24.
I dont think that is as true as people would like it to be. The competition difference and the comparables in league directory are just not showing this. I think it fluctuates and that draft top draft eligibles and draftees change that yeat to year.

Veleno lovers have been quiet during the u-18s so far.
I don't know if I'm a "Veleno lover" but I like what I've seen. Nothing to show he isn't worthy of a pick around #10. Nothing to really boost him up the rankings.

I'm having a harder time assessing Smith. Shows his skill but made way more mistakes than he normally does. But being the #1 guy and captain on a potential gold medal team is great anyway.

More so that one is a winger and one is a defensemen.......
And he is putting up those numbers....

You think Morozov is there for our 3rd? Haven't had the chance to watch him much.

I got you fam.

Number 87 in white. 14 is that Marchenko all the kids are talking about these days. 91 in blue is Shafigullin.

I have no idea what NHL teams think of him but he's been great in the WJAC, 5 nations, WJC-18, and not too bad in the playoffs.
