I want dahlin,Svechnikov then Hughes. Hughes will thrive in the new nhl

I think talking about the "new NHL" as if it a vastly different paradigm in the sport overstates things. Yes, speed is key nowadays, but 5'9" defensemen will always struggle defensively in their own zone in the corners, along the wall, and in front of the net. Smaller defensemen may be able to defend the rush well, but defending the cycle will always be a challenge. It's a matter of risk management and whether the offense is significant enough to overcome defensive liabilities.

And cycling offensively, and going to the net, and neutral zone.

The collective boner for manlets needs to stop.

Yes, Hughes really dominated the WJHC, he was a defensive liability, and rode the bench for 5v5 most of the tournament. Mete on the other hand plays defense very well.
Yes, I know Mete is older, but to say Hughes flat out dominates the opposition is a joke, he flat out dominates inferior competition.
NCAA is inferior competition?

Morozov is a clever player. I'm watching Mamonty's playoff games against Reaktor and a little bit of the way into the 2nd period, he steals the puck from Nabiullin, walks Shafigullin (I think) and gets a shot. In the first period he makes a no look pass to his winger (could have been Marchenko, not sure), and sprints to the net with his stick on the ice for a scoring chance.

The great russian 2018 draft. Id probably spend firsts and seconds on like 15 of those damn ruskies.

Clearly inferior to WJC, NHL where Mete played this year.

I think I could play on some of those NCAA teams.
My point is how can you devalue him based on one tournament when most draft eligible players don't even make it. What does that say about Boqvist, Whalstrom, Dobson, Smith, Bouchard?. Hughes was the youngest division one player in the NCAA. He had a better ppg than that big, truculent winger Tkachuk, as a defenceman, but since Brady rode coattails through the wjhc I guess that's more important than an entire season of equal competition. What Quinn did was dominant. And that's the point of my other post. The other poster claimed that Quinn has only dominated enferior competition. And I disagree, his NCAA performance was incredible.

Using Tkachuk doesnt provide much of an argument, his production is poor.

The original poster stated he flat-out dominates competition, I pointed out he did not dominate the WJHC, so he does not flat-out dominate competition. He's a 99 born player, so he is not that much younger than the other players in the WJHC, he's what 16 months younger than Mete.

He dominated the NCAA as the youngest player...

Is there much convincing to do? The only thing id give to McLaughlin is offense tranferability (yeah thats a new official term ill use now).

I don't even think that's true. Shafi makes smart, high percentage plays. If he makes it at all I would expect him to be a big point getter.

Sixteen months is huge at that age. Like I said the vast majority of Quinn's peers don't even make it to the tournament. Hard to fault a player for making it to the wjc as a draft eligible prospect when the only other top ranked defenseman that made it was Dahlin...

I agree with you. I only didn't take Shafigulin higher because I thought I was the only one who knew him/considered taking him that high.

I can't wait for Bob's list to come out. Both Morozov and Shafigullin were unranked on the last one. I like Shafigullin with Toronto's pick and Morozov with our 3rd unless Bob's list says otherwise. Specifically, if Shafi's average rank is higher than 56, then we know at least one team has him at least as high as 56, and we should take him earlier if we want him.

If they're still unranked? Sheeeeeit.
