It's not like this the last chance this team will have to draft a potential top center. If anything, next year's crop looks much more promising with tons of very very good centermen. Drafting a top line scoring winger now and a talented center next year will work just fine in building a contender. There's little sense in rushing things and passIng on superior talent for the sake of filling an immediate need.

True, but in this case, the center is equal talent

I'm trying to figure out how much I value upside vs NHL translation, I don't have Ginning ranked right now but he'll likely make it in a bottom pairing role above many of these players, I just don't know if I'd take him over the potential of any of them.

Bottom pairing guys and 4th liners cost nothing to get by trade.

My view is you always go for the upside. I mean if you draft 6 bottom pairing D, are they worth 1 no.3 D ? No.

Nicely done!! Thanks!! I'm curious about the two big Swedish C's. Some people have Gustafsson higher, others Olofsson. I like them both myself...

I think Gustafsson definitely needs to improve his skating but he's a remarkably smart player and I think he could excel in the cycle game at the NHL level. I'd rather have to have a prospect improve skating than decision making or intelligence.

Olofsson looks fine, nothing really jumps out about him though and I have a hard time seeing more than a 3rd liner in him.

This kid needs more hype. Only 2 pages? His stats are not great but he's on a loaded team with older players who get the big minutes.

The goal tonight:

And he had this snipe on Thursday:

If this kid was from Finland we'd probably be hearing alot more positive reviews on this board...

I definitely have a soft spot for the Finns, but I am also not a fan of drafting Hayton in the top 15... after that... sure.

I'd consider Hayton if we drafted Zadina at #3 and we procured the #13th overall pick from Dallas in a Pacioretty deal (just something I saw from both fans on the trade board).

But that's about it.

Hayton wouldnt even be BPA in the 2nd round, screw that.
That's a bit harsh fam , he's certainly not elite but he's not that bad. With some improvements to his skating he'll be a very safe bet to at least be a decent pro. He plays a very pro friendly game and he's got enough individual tools . He's not a manlet either .

I'd probably rather just trade him for a 2019 first in that case. There's also the option to move in late first and grab Dellandrea who's just as interesting.

Dude's a late birthday, has all the skills, and plays a complete game. What's not to like? I'm not saying take him at 3, but if a Pacioretty deal goes down for a pick in the 10-15 range he should be considered. Sometimes players bust out their post draft season... Hayton could be one of those guys.

Hayton has 2C upside and has the pro potential to be someone a coach trusts.. the thing about him is, you can say.. he has an above average shot, but he doesn't have any elite shots.. above average hands, but not elite hands, he is good passer but not a great passer, he's not small but he's not big, he's a good skater but not a great skater. He has good production but not great production.
