That’s if he even decides to come back this year. What if the Rangers tell him he’s not guaranteed a spot and might have to report to Hartford again? Is this **** gonna continue next season too? Either give me an NHL roster position or I’m not coming?

The likelihood of Kravtsov getting ANY time with the Rangers this season is minimal. If he were to return in February, it will be to play for Hartford the remainder of the season and possibly playoffs.

You know where he buys his supps? Asking for friend.

Its so annoying hearing how the kid coached by Mr. PED himself shows up for camp with 3% body fat in best shape of all players at the age of 19 y/o, but OTOH maybe Kravy can get some vitamins from that guy... ;)

I feel that VK's decision probably had more to do with money than anything else. Why should he slog around on a bus for pennies on the dollar when he can live a pretty nice life, making a decent salary, in the KHL.
Is Vitalty’s family wealthy? If not maybe he’s helping support them?

His sister is a lawyer in Canada, his dad is director of an IT company, not sure what his mom does for a living but they travel all over the world so I assume she makes good money too

Sometimes things seem really good as far as theory but actual reality isn't that great. Kravtsov's 5 games in Hartford had me questioning whether he was ready to make the jump to the AHL let alone the NHL. I wasn't really disappointed that he decided to go back to the KHL to be honest. Not to start this debate about what leagues are better than others but if you're going to play in the NHL/AHL you got to be ready to battle and Vitali seems to be still growing into his body. One impression of mine is he needs to get stronger--probably put on a little more weight--6'4 and 180 some lbs. is probably not enough. This is a common issue by the way for 19 year olds at the beginning of their careers. In the European leagues you have more space and less games. Skills are more accentuated. Physical play not as much. Whether the AHL is as good as the KHL or vice versa is debatable though. There are some KHL teams that would excel--some others wouldn't. It's not a league built on parity. One thing about the AHL though--it's a tough league to play in--it's a hard checking and physical league. These aren't Vitali's strengths right now.

But again he's only 19. I'd give him a break.

Yeah, I mean it's like an RFA not signing his QO and leaving to play somewhere else. Or a guy graduating from college and becoming a UFA instead of signing his ELC. Those are things that the guys have the right to do, but as a fan of the affected team you have the right to be pissed off by it or question the wisdom of it.

I don't think my opinion on Kravtsov as a prospect has changed much over the last couple months.

But as far as me being a "fan" of him; I mean, yeah, that's taken a hit. Whether I'm a fan of him right now or not though, is irrelevant. He just needs to come back more prepared, with a better mentaility and work ethic, and start to realize his potential. And earn the respect that (in my opinion) he may have felt a bit entitled to.

I have my reasons as to why I have "cooled off" a bit regarding Kravtsov and it's not something that happened on the ice.

The decision to go back to Russia isn't it, I have no problem with it.

That's fair. And I would assume that your opinion of him as a prospect is also mostly unchanged?

I think that is a key difference that we see between posters here. Some of us do a good job of separating personal likes and dislikes about players from our evaluations of them... and some of us do not.

And before I get @ed, I haven't read the last couple pages of this thread, so I'm not writing that with anybody particular in mind.

edit - apparently there is a poster named ed. Sorry, Man. *@'ed

Yeah I don't like what I've seen here, but it doesn't change my feelings on the kid's abilities or anything like that. I may downgrade him slightly because he's not as ready as I thought, but that's not a personal thing.

Like DeAngelo, I think he's an excellent player, but also a shithead. The latter doesn't change the former.

Deangelo is the best example of it on the current Rangers for me.

There is very little that I've heard or seen of him as a person, that doesn't annoy the hell out of me; but I hope that he proves to be the real deal and we find a way to keep him. He's a player.

My opinion on him as a prospect hasn't changed. As a person, I am not really a fan anymore. In a way, it's the exact opposite of Lias haha.

Needs to toughen up mentally?--is kind of what I'm reading. That's also a typical issue for 19 year olds. Sometimes things come a little too easily and the first time someone is hit with some kind of adversity.....they wilt. The Rangers carried him through training camp. He played 5 of our 6 preseason games--even had a goal and an assist during those preseason games. There is no question the talent is there. That said the Rangers made the correct decision....he wasn't ready for the NHL yet and was sent to Hartford and at that point things kind of discombobulated.
