It's international break. There's no KHL hockey because of that. The Russian national team plays in the Karjala Cup, which started last night in Helsinki. At the same time, the u20 team plays in the u20 Four Nations. Last season, Kravtsov was eligible for the WJC and was part of the u20 team. This he isn't so he stays in Chelyabinsk. May as well have him play some games while the KHL has a break.

This is in essence no different from the situation last season where Lundkvist played a couple games with the J20 team in SuperElit (under 20 team) and played 4 games in 4 days. He didn't miss a single SHL game, and I don't expect Kravtsov to miss a KHL game. He will be back when Traktor plays again on Tuesday.

Chelmet plays today against Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk and Monday against Yermak Angarsk

Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the clarification!

Any time. The easiest way to explain is when NHL teams send players down during the All Star break. They're not missing any games. They're just playing a few more instead of sitting at home. This isn't an issue, it shouldn't even be a talking point. Kravtsov aged out of the u20s so he's not on any national team. That's it. If he was eligible for the WJC he'd be in Helsinki today

Just saying... for anyone that thinks KHL training camps are a cake walk please listen to the Tim Stapleton interview on the latest Spittin Chiclets... NHL coaches aren't making their guys run for miles outdoors in the middle of a snow storm.

Plus, it's an absolute riot of an interview.

Great interview. Mike Keenan is crazier than I thought.

I wish Spittin Chiclets wasn't part of Barstool so I could listen to it.

I recently started to listen to them on Spotify, unless I’m missing context in your post. The KHL talk has been permanently featured in a lot of recent podcasts.

It kind of provides some additional perspective to our Kravtsov discussion. So many well matured NA hockey players struggle to adapt in KHL and Russia in general (which translates to their struggles on the ice) where local kids have absolutely no issues because this is where and how they were raised.

I shouldn't have brought it up, really, but the show is part of the Barstool Sports network of programming. And Barstool is pretty awful. Like I said I won't get into it further but if you really want to know why I don't like them, Google should have plenty.

Chelmet playing today. Kravtsov not in the line-up. It's safe to say he was called up and the assignment was solely based on the international break.

Pretty atrocious D. They left half the zone completely open. Good he got a point but that definitely wasn't amazing. Unless his scoring explodes I won't be getting excited by scoring all that often. We never saw his overall game and it turned out that it had enormous holes in it. Without seeing if he's addressing those issues it's hard for me to get excited.

Last week St Louis scored in overtime on a 3-on-0 breakaway

This stuff happens in hockey.

As for his development: He's 19. Turning 20 next month. His deficiencies aren't going to be fixed overnight. Players take time to develop.

Nice pass, wouldn't really call it fantastic or amazing. The best part was his awareness that his man was open--with that in mind all he had to do was get it in the area of his guy. It was good.

His awareness to make the play is what makes it stand out.

Awareness play. He saw a line before he made this no look pass. The opponent was closing passing lanes along the board where a “standard” play should have been expected. They also had someone in the middle who was asked to cover a lot of territory.

I've seen better d in a men's league game at Chelsea Piers. This is my issue with the move back to Russia. He can make moves like that all day long in the KHL but he can't get away with that stuff in the NHL. How is he going to learn how to play in North America?

I often wonder how much of stuff like that is just plain luck... I say that because sometimes when you're under pressure your first instinct is just to get it in deep and out of a potential trouble.

In this case it's clearly intentional because you can see him glance over his shoulder a second before making that pass... But sometimes you see guys make. Miraculous passes and you wonder.....
