The really talented players usually aren't affected by this (Kucherov, Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Panarin, Tarasenko) and are given more "freedom" to roam around in my opinion. It will depend on Kravtsov if he's able to do that as well. For all the love Kravtsov gets (and rightfully so), I don't think he will amaze people this coming season. I expect a 25-30 point season out of him with some PP2 time
Yeah for sure some guys get more leeway. When you're producing 50 goals or 90 points then you can be forgiven for turning the puck over in the neutral zone at times with boneheaded plays.
I'm generalizing a lot with this next statement but I think for guys like Buch and maybe a guy like Kravtsov, just the different emphasis in style of play between KHL and NHL is a big thing to overcome. Not necessarily the physical part, but like...I think Buch could/can get away with watching the play and waiting for a moment to "strike" and get a puck and go with it in the KHL, while in the NHL a coach like Quinn is saying "no, you need to be involved, you need to forecheck and win battles and get the puck and THEN be creative with it".
Very broad generalization there, I think NHL coaches just want to see more puck pressure and aggression in play particularly without the puck. Perhaps for better or worse.
As for Kravtsov's production...might depend a lot on the makeup of the team next season, who he gets to play with, etc. If he can play with the more talented guys on the team he can probably do pretty well. If he's kind of bouncing around the lineup working on things the coaches want him to work on etc then he may not produce a lot. That is if he even starts or gets a lot of NHL playing time.
Off topic a bit but it really is something that has irritated me about how Quinn has handled Andersson...just seems like he's always getting the low minutes and not a lot of skilled linemate support. Seems like he's being setup to not produce much right now. Maybe the coaches have their reasons I suppose.
