Classifying him as what? Based on every draft board and the player taken immediately after him he absolutely was a reach.

I said he’s a good player for sure. I don’t know anyone that thinks he’s going to be a great first line player. If you think so then I guess agree to disagree.

Classifying him as a "reach" without having had an NHL career yet. If the guy plays 800 games as a 2nd line player, he will not have been a "reach".

When Brad Marchand was picked 71st overall and took a few years to find his game, did anyone think he'd be a top line player? Look at the guy now.

My point is you have let Lias get a little older before labeling him as ANYTHING. We simply don't know yet - and that includes me and you.

And, FWIW, some "draft board" prognosticators said they wouldn't be surprised if he went in the top 10. Not a reach.

My point is a reach is only relevant at the draft when someone is picked outside of where they should be picked. Lias was a reach. His current skill set says so as well. If he all of a sudden learns how to skate great but wouldn’t change whether he was a reach or not.

I personally don’t use this in any argument anyway. I’ve always said he’s fantastic around the net I love his attitude and strength I just think his skating will always keep him from being a great player same as Stepan. We didn’t need another good player another Stepan at 7 we needed a game changer. We had a chance to take one and didn’t. We reached for a guy slated in the 10-15 range (that being generous)

Lias Andersson = Jere Lehtinen. I think Lias can be a 1st line player. It is a matter of what you prefer. Jere Lehtinen was a 1st line player but he was a very reliable 2-way guy. He did not put up that much points but he was a selke forward. I think Jere Lehtinen is the ceiling for Lias.

Not picking the guy you preferred in the second tier of the 2017 draft ≠ reach. I don't know why those of you who make this argument don't understand that.

There were 6 guys in the top tier. The second tier went from 7 to the mid-teens. Some of you wanted Mittelstadt or Suzuki; the Rangers preferred Andersson. All three were in that next tier together; who you chose was simply a matter of personal preference.

You may well turn out to have been right in your own preference (though to this point, the facts don't support such a conclusion). But that still doesn't mean the pick was a reach.
Okay but you understand that we can use draft rankings to understand who is a reach, right? Just like McIlrath was a reach. We know that. Not because of hindsight, we knew it right when he was drafted.

Lias very well may be the best player selected from picks 7-10 in the draft, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a reach. Because he was. In my opinion, I guess.

Exactly

Again I don’t know why people come in here screaming BUST?!?! Oh yeah?!?! No one has ever called him a bust. It’s childish.

Lias infront of the net jamming away on a rebound and two Belarus players goes after him. Leave Platt furious on Lias after a half intentional but-end to the ribs...

Andersson and Chytil were both reaches.

That said, having the lowest aggregate draft position isn't what makes a pick successful. It doesn't matter anywhere outside this site.
If Andersson is a staple on your team for a decade and plays anchors your second line scoring 60 points, it's a great player to have (no matter where you pick him.)

Chytil was DEF a reach. I was livid wanted tolvanen who Unless Chytil turns into a Star was absolutely the guy we should have taken. We look like we dodged a bullet there and got a hell of a prospect though.

See to me watching this game and others where he’s played wing Lias is a much better fit at wing than at center where his skating becomes more of an issue. I think at wing he can be a landeskog type player if everything goes right for him. Maybe not that high end but that type of guy. I don’t think he ever becomes a center for us. He’s better used as a winger.

I guess we're arguing semantics at this point but I don't see how it was a 'reach' either..

A reach is taking a player WAY ahead of their projection. I guess Pettersson was a reach too, but you won't find nucks fans bitching about it.
