Another brutal day for the team.

Giving 4 years to a offensively challenged, aging, one zone player at any price is silly. Will quickly become another anchor and maybe a buy out candidate fairly soon.

Rousell has declined as a fighter and that is about all he is really decent at. Was a time when he would recklessly go with anyone but has had enough beat downs to be less inclined to throw down in the last season or so. Mostly just bear hugs now. Can provide some 4th line hustle but so can many others. It's ironic that they had Rousell in the organization at one point but let him slip away. Now we overpay to get him back.

Team remains, arguably, the weakest team at center in the League.

Jim and Trevor, death by a thousand cuts. These guys only have there sights on the playoffs, complete nonsense.

There is no long term plan other than trying to be competitive year after year something which they have failed at miserably.

4 years, my god! The tandem of Benning and Weisbroad have to be the worst contract negotiators in the entire NHL! Its not even close!

Laurence Gilman if only you weren't so intelligent and opinionated you may still be employed by the Canucks, but alas you have moved on to a brighter and more progressive organization.

Just waiting for that James Neal contract announcement, more meat and potatoes!!!!

Can't wait to see what the median age of this hockey club will be come opening night? Thought we would get younger with the Sedins' retiring, boy was I wrong.

Eriksson is unmovable. Who would want Gagner? MDZ? Gudbranson? I don't really see us trading any of these guys away.

This is a good measure of whether or not the signing was a good one. That is, assuming no NTC or NMC, are these players/contracts tradable? I would suggest that the following players are untradable now based on their contracts (that is, without retaining salary):

Eriksson
Roussel
Beagle
Sutter
Gagner
Del Zotto
Gubranson
Nilsson

When was the last time a sub 20 point forward was signed for 4 years? How about a sub 25 point forward? I think this is pretty unprecedented territory but am too lazy to look into it.

He's a terrible add at $3M per year for 4 years, when he's age 33.
I agree the contract is the good but I've seen several instances of people calling Beagle garbage when he's a great 4th line defensive centre and ridiculously good at faceoffs, won a Cup, and worked his ass off in the league. People let their emotions dictate their opinions of the players themselves but I'm quite happy to have Beagle on this team next year even though his contracts is a little wack

Both contracts are absolute Benning special garbage. And I especially hate the Roussel contract holy crap

LOL

10 goal scorer Ericsson on the first line
10 goal scorer Gagner as 2nd line centre

Erikssson was a 10 goal scorer largely because he was being misused. Sutter is not a playmaker and doesn’t mesh well with Eriksson’s game. Eriksson’s primary focus playing with Sutter was shutting down opponents as well.

Hence my suggestion - play Eriksson with Horvat and see if you can get Eriksson going offensively again.

Gagner is horrid. No argument from me there, but he’s still a better playmaker than Sutter. Boeser was able to carry Gagner a little last year and so maybe playing Boeser alongside Gagner can give us two scoring lines. Putting Pettersson on LW also gives Pettersson the opportunity to play alongside a superstar.

Like Rousell not sold on Beagle as I think he is what Gaunce could and should be. Though maybe he has more edge and sacrifice in him. We do not have a lot of players willing to put their bodies on the line like Tanev and Stecher for example.

Four year deals means it'll be the next GMs job to dump these trash players. How he does that is really the only interesting element to consider
Remember, Chris Higgins' NTC is used as the reason why Benning has been "handcuffed" since 2014 and has to do absolutely indefensible things. Benning's moves should buy the next guy at least a couple decades.

You don’t want the worst team in the NHL the past 3 years to have room for young players?

Add Roussel, Beagle, to Eriksson, Gagner, Granlund, Sutter,....mediocre veterans who will make no difference to getting this team out from the bottom 5 and only take roster spots from young players.

Sure I want young players to play, but it's July 1 not October 1. I'm not someone that gets worked up over hypotheticals.

This team will be painful to watch this year. Beyond Horvat and Boeser who will score?
You are right but I want to stress it will not be more painful. Petterson and Hughes would add some excitement to team. Even Guadette Lipsic Goldy OJ Demko could add some excitement.
