People are really talking about a 4 or 5 year deal here?

1 year (at whatever money) would actually be a good signing.
2 years - tolerable.
3 years - bad, but expected.
4+ years - insane.

Is gagner just going to be a rotational player now?

If they didn't have gagner I'd be ok with this move, but why the hell would you do this with sutter and gagner still canucks?

3 years is fine at under 3M
2 years under 4M.

Prefer the 2 year deal myself. 4+ years is insane at any dollar amount. Smells like a sign and flip at trade deadline deal to me. Teams will want C depth and Beagle could fetch a decent return for his services.

Beagle's line would get that deployment and his TOI would be propped up by PK time. Petersson's line would get similar to the Sedin's line last season.

If Pettersson's line gets Sedin-equivalent minutes (a big step up for Gagner, if that's who Pettersson's centre is), and Sutter gets what he got last year, and Horvat gets what he got last year, how is Beagle going to be left with many minutes of any kind, hard or otherwise?

Do you think a team with Horvat, Sutter, Gagner, and Beagle down the middle would score more or fewer goals than last year's rather low-scoring outfit?

A Beagle signing would give the Canucks two veteran centres who offer very little as playmakers. It would put Pettersson, who looks likely to be playing on the wing because he isn't physically ready to play centre, alongside a veteran who has proven inadequate at centre because of defensive limitations. It simply doesn't make sense.

**** you guys are such complainers. Wait to see the term and money at least. He’s a great signing, best 4C in the league and can step into 3C if needed. Great leader and locker room guy and he’s big.

So is it that we should wait to see the term and money or he’s a great signing? Your post is confusing.

If the Canucks were to sign Beagle, which centre would you see playing with Pettersson, assuming Elias makes the team?

(Beagle's best ever assist total over a full season: 17, in 2016/17.)
Good question, no idea.

For me center looks like this:

Horvat
Sutter/EP
Gaudette/Granlund
Beagle/Gaunce

Seems like something has to give, same of defense. I don’t want EP playing with guys that can’t score. I know he has to earn it but for me playing him with Boeser and Horvat makes sense. Defensively responsible Horvat and two guys that can score.

Playing him with Sutter would stunt his development imo.

Maybe an Eriksson Baertchi combo could work? Just seems like the Canucks have a lot of guys that do similar things.

I think Sutter and Gaunce need to go.

33 years old a week or so into the season. Essentially a 20 point 4th line. Shouldn’t be more than 2 years or 2 mil per. It will be though.

Jay Beagle is a 4th liner who will be 33 at the start of this upcoming season. Benning is giving him a multi-year deal?

"yeah but he's learned"

2.5 is fine for him
3 years is a year too long
Oh well, hope he can maintain his form until he''s 36
I assume that either trade Sutter at the DL or let him walk

80 million dollar cap, 2.5 million is not going to keep us from doing anything.

He will still have value by next year and could easily be flipped.

Beagle at three years, 2.5 million per, seems fine to me ... for some other team that needs a fourth-line defensive centre. That team isn't the Canucks.
