Dolphins when Tannehill sucks again.

Bengals since they are fed up with Dalton.

The Jags since they might get fed up with Bortles.

Broncos.

Saints to replace Brees.

Lots of possibilities. Some of these young QBs might end up disappointing too. The point is you have the #2 pick and a 37 year old QB, you need to draft the guy for the future.

these guys aren't going to wash out in a season is my point. we're going to be in really good shape to get a QB at the top of the draft in the next two years. there just aren't going to be many teams that need to make that pick after this draft ends.

Broncos were sitting there and passed on the qbs too. Saints moved up and passed and by the way gave up their first next year so forget them. they don't want a QB. Jags like bortles and there's no way any of those teams finish below us if ELI is as horrible as he's being made out to be. those teams are all better much better.

you know for everyone crying about never getting a shot at a QB again and blowing it by taking the bpa in barkley, find me a team outside of san diego and probably the pats that will need to draft a franchise QB in the next two seasons? you're going to have a hard time finding a team that doesn't love their guy right now. the word is sand diego or the pats are probably taking the best two qbs left in the draft in the second round too so they may not even be very interested in grabbing another one in the first two rounds.

this is a very unique time in the NFL. almost every team has a guy that they love right now. If Eli blows it this year then we'll probably be drafting in the top 15 again and most certainly will have a shot at a top qb either this next year or in 2020.
1. Darnold was the bpa, hell chubb is the second most talented player in the draft besides dranold
2. Eli is already on the major decline and is 37, hes almost done
3. Next years qb draft is weak. This year was the time to take one, and we blew it
4. Drafting Saqon was a win now move when the rest of this team outside of 3 players sucks
5. Drafting Darnold woulda allowed us to cut Eli next season so we can resign Collins and OBJ
6. What Oline will help Barkley flourish?
In conclusion, stick to Lias Andersson hot takes those are more bearable

Yeah, Mac did really well to make the deal when he did. If he waited until last night you probably could have changed one of the seconds into a first.
The draft went Mayfield, Barkley then 2 teams who don't need a QB and then the Broncos who just signed a 2 year deal with a $25 million guarantee. I didn't expect them to draft a QB either. Once the Browns and Giants picked I don't think the Jets would have needed to trade up. Better to be safe but not sure it would've been more expensive at that point.

Full disclosure: I lost my bet on Barkley going to the Browns.

1. that must be a nice attitude to be around everyday. you always that salty? eeesh.

2. no one has darnold as BPA no one. Barkley is the Best player in the draft.
3. this also isn't a video game. the giants weren't aren't going to just cut eli manning next year. that's absurd. lets keep going though.
4. the Oline already has 2 new good players in Solder and Omameh. They will most likely be adding another first round talent in hernandez. I'd be shocked if they didn't. They've got two more top 100 picks in the third round. the oline will be much improved. why are you pretending he's jumping in front of last year's oline?

5.and finally..... see lias andersson thread for more andersson updates.

You shouldn't be talking about me getting salty over prospects when this entire year all I've seen you do is complain about lias. Now I understand how you felt about the CM pick
Also, they were talking about cutting Eli after last season, they benched him in favor of Geno Smith for a reason so lets not act like this isn't a real possibility
and if Patrick Omameh is our second best olineman saquon is screwed. Also I'm expecting to Gettelman to mess up his pick again and not take Hernandez

I think it would have been more expensive because if you assume that Darnold was the consensus #1 QB on the board and not many people realistically projected him falling to 3, had last night played out as it did you probably have 1) more teams interested in moving to 3 to grab the best QB in the draft and 2) Indianapolis with more leverage in the trade talks because again, a guy that wasn't supposed to be there was suddenly there.

Remember when the Jets made the trade originally there wasn't anything to suggest the Giants had locked onto Barkley--they were still in it for a QB. So the Jets made the trade to give themselves a shot to draft probably the third QB on the board, who almost certainly would not have been Darnold. It basically boils down to the idea that when they acquired the pick it was for whichever QB the Browns and Giants didn't pick, and it then became a trade for the best QB in the draft.

The thing I don't understand with the NFL draft is, given the positional scarcity/importance, when does it become profitable to draft a player like Barkley?

I mean, I think I'm on board with the Giants fans that are against it, but what if everyone passes on him and then he falls all the way to the Patriots or something? It's a really interesting nuance to the NFL draft I think.

I’m fine with Barkley at 6 or 7.

yes I complain about prospects I don't disrespect other posters out of the blue when starting a conversation but I guess to each their own.

having said that benching eli under the old regime for one game does not equate to cutting him its not even close. they won't do it. if he passes on hernandez for anyone other than landry then we can talk about question marks here by the front office.

Pittsburgh, Miami, LA Chargers, Patriots, Saints, Denver will for sure be looking for a QB in the next two years, maybe Cincinnati, Washington. Even Minnesota can be on the market for one with Cousins implodes there.
They are saying the next QB class is horrible and our team is too good for us being in the bottom of the standings in the near future, we could become the Islanders of the NFL and that makes me wanna cry.

Tha it's not true. OBJ, Collins, Harrison, Vernon, Jenkins, Shepard, Engram, Solder, Tomlison, Ogletree are all good players. Saquon will probably be a top 5 back in the league. This team has talent, with a decent oline - I'm pretty sure we will draft a guard or tackle with the 34th pick - we can compete in the playoffs this year.

It's clear that management is banking on the defense rebounding to 2016 form with a better (hopefully) coaching staff, with the addition of Ogletree offsetting some other losses.

I love watching Saquon highlights but I woulda went with the QB just for the logistics. I'll reserve my opinion until we're through some of the season because Saquon and Odell alone might steal the G-Men 20 points a game (with Shep and Engram getting the other 14 a game as the Giants go 19-0)

to me the biggest issue was the OL. the defense was on the field all day long they gave up. the OL was an abomination with zero running game to support eli who then lost literally all his targets outside of engram

The schedule has the Giants opening up with the Jags and includes the Falcons, Saints, Eagles, Texans and Cowboys. This team needs a lot to go right to be in the playoffs next year. This was such a short-sided move.

And another thing that pisses me off is Gettelman claiming he wasn’t offered much. Bullshit. The NFL has cards printed out that describes the exact cost to move up. He fell in love with Barkley and didn’t want to listen to offers.

Actual team construction is a huge factor as well, beyond hypothetical positional scarcity & salary ranking discussions. If you're the Colts at 6, invested in Luck already, Barkley is a home run.

He trapped himself with his outspoken love for Barkley, everybody knew he wasn't taking a QB, therefore there was no need to trade with us, Buffalo already knew that Allen would be there at 5.
I believe in our coaches, with a decent offensive line I think we are better than the Falcons, Texans and Cowboys, we surely can beat the Jags at home... You never know, it's shortsided move but I really believe we can compete with the best teams in the league this year.

Allegedly Gettleman didn't even field calls on the pick. He allowed someone else to do it since he wasn't interested in trading it. This is a completely unverified rumor that I've now seen a few folks say, though.

We had a fine running game after Jones came in and Fluker came in. We were over 4 YPC. So, no. That's not accurate.

Stop excusing Eli's shit play. It's so obnoxious.

Yeah it would certainly be safer to trade up for 3 in case anyone else would. But at the time of the trade, and this is assuming the top 3 guys were Darnold and the Joshes, a likely scenario would be 2 of those guys going 1 and 2 with 3 being required to have a chance at the other. With 1 and 2 going Mayfield and Barkley, the value of trading up to 3 vs say 5 just isn't there anymore IMO. Unless you have to have your guy and only your guy.

There’s no way anyone could play without any wide receivers no decent running back and flowers protecting the blindside. Give me a break.
