I'm not sure, MA Bergeron survived at D on his offence and he was the worst defensive player in the league for a while.

Probably the same reason good defensive forwards who are bad at offence are not played at defence.
Not Ottawa MO to take that sort of player so I guess count Berkeley out if your assessment is right.

Mcisaac and woo are probably on our radar. I wonder if we like kandre Miller, probably will translate some offense to the nhl. Not sure about mcisaac and woo who might settle into stay at home roles. I’ve seen mcisaac play 1 and a half times now and it might just be that the reins are in him a little too tight

Just checked. His point totals are actually pretty good this year and year previous. Maybe he’s just more economic in his movement so he doesn’t pop on screen. Which might be what we need

2018 - Dahlin, Svechnikov
2019 - Hughes
2020 - Lafreniere, Byfield, Holtz

6 franchise changing players in the next 3 drafts

Yeah, I've heard some talking heads (mostly McGuire) talking about 2020 in glowing terms for a good 2-3 years now. Iirc, he has a kid in that draft class, so he was spending time with the US traveling team his son is with (at least last year, or the year before). Sounds like it will be another 2015, where damned near the entire first round will be NHLers.

It looks like, at the moment anyway, that Ottawa is going to get one of the top 5 players. That should really help Ottawa going into the forseable future along with the other 1st rd pick they have.

I really want Kotkaniemi, unfortunately (well, not really, we get a higher pick) I don't think he will be thought of until ~6/7

The team needs a major addition of talent and to shed the over-the-hill-gang acquired by our GM. I am stupefied that the owner would extend Dorion or any of his management and hockey operations team after this disaster. If the team trades Karlsson this team will seriously challenge my fandom for the next few years.

Well let's not forget that there are a number of good young prospects coming & it will all depend on what PD does with some of these "players" they need to replace & when these young guys will be NHL ready or GB ready.

Brown, Formenton, White, Chlapik, Jaros, Batherson, Paul & Gustavsson at some point should all help to make this team better, not to mention the two 1st rd picks this yr.

I watched some of his clips and he looks like he can do it all. Plus, he's a center.

I really wouldn't mind taking him at 3, he has a lot more dynamism to his game than Wahlstrom and Tkachuck imo.

Probably the Scheifele/Rantanen pick of this draft.

I'm a little lower on Wahlstrom than most, and (probably) a lot higher on Keller, but that seems like a huge stretch to me. They don't play the same style and Wahlstrom doesn't have half of Keller's hockey IQ. Honestly, I kinda of think Keller will put up more points this year than Wahlstrom will in his entire career.

Seems like a lazy comparison outside of the USNDP/NCAA connections.

That's extreme, and extremely unlikely.

Yeah that seems to be the gist of the comparison.

I meant more in a season, I think Keller gets up past 65 points and I'm not convinced Wahlstrom's ceiling is much higher than 60 points. Might still be extreme, but as I said, I'm not particularly high on Wahlstrom (at least as a top-10 pick).

Wahlstrom>Tkachuk.
I haven't seen a single poll that places Wahstrom ahead of Tkachuk, not one. It's not surprising that a good number of people on here don't want or like Tkachuk, he isn't a fancy player who dangles & he's not a speedster. Most on here don't seem to like the rugged tough kind of hockey style that he plays which is similar to his dad & brother but I would argue that this is exactly the kind of player Ottawa needs. Having said that though I would be fine with a least 7 players in the top 10 & a few outside the top 10 but they should pick the BPA when their turn comes up. My guess is that they should pick in the top 5 & get one of Dahlin, Svechnikov, Tkachuk, Sadina or Bouchard.

One name there is not like the others...
Every team has twenty positions to fill on their roster & hopefully Ottawa has players who will fill those positions & contribute in the NHL. Not every player is the same nor does every player contribute equally, hence the differences in salaries. Any improvement in any position makes the team better & really that is what is important, to improve at every position. It will be interesting to see in future which if these prospects fans will turn on first.

I'd love Matthew Tkachuk, but Brady doesn't have the ability of his brother.
