I was up early so I missed the first period while taking a nap.
I missed the first too, not that I’ve been able to catch many Cornell games the past few months, but I’ve got it on nowI was up early so I missed the first period while taking a nap.
I actually don't buy this stuff about McCambridge. It's not that I think he's a great coach but he's not Gernander. He's there to help develop players into complete players. He had Chytil for most of last year and brought him along nicely. It's not a team of nothing but defense minded robots. That certainly isn't what Lettieri or Gilmour are. At issue is he's had to work with a load of first and second year players and some semi-interested vets who are either on AHL deals or more interested in hooking on to a team that enhances their NHL chances. Until the Chytil, Andersson draft and the moves at last year's deadlines the younger players we were sticking in there weren't really very good. As well because of the lack of high end prospects when we finally do get some the NHL team wants and gets them maybe sooner than they should. It's not just the growing pains the Rangers are going through because those same growing pains permeate through the entire organization.
As far as what Barron does--I don't know. It's interesting that the Rangers just did a video on him so I wouldn't be surprised if they signed him though it might be best if he does another year with Cornell. That said---if he has anything like this year next year or better I would want him to forgo his senior year and sign. If not---other options might open like packaging his rights in a trade.
Answering this here since it's the appropriate forum. It's not that I think McCambridge is creating defensive robots. I just have concerns about the defensive structure in Hartford overall based on the guys that watch like you @Beacon and @ManUtdTobbe have said. I'd rather Barron learn for another year in an actual system.
Also Barron took a really dumb penalty earlier and got bailed out by a bad embellishment call.
Cornell wins it 4-2
I would rather Wall and Barron both stay in school for another year. Wall managed to get his game back on track and will likely be the clear #1 next season with Green getting about 25% of the starts. Plus he's a Mechi, so he might want to stick it out and finish his degree. That's a tough one to come back and finish later on.
Barron is having himself a breakout season, but he definitely has room to grow as a college player before turning pro.
I can't fault the UML coach for going with Hernberg. He saved their season last year after Wall fell apart and this year they had identical save percentages (before tonight) and were only separated by .04 in the GAA department, again with Hernberg playing better down the stretch. I probably would have made the same decision, even though I have a vested interest in Wall succeeding.#CoachingFail
