Barron took a penalty, Union player also got called for embellishment, so it stayed 5 on 4 and Cornell scores to take the lead with Barron in the box

I actually don't buy this stuff about McCambridge. It's not that I think he's a great coach but he's not Gernander. He's there to help develop players into complete players. He had Chytil for most of last year and brought him along nicely. It's not a team of nothing but defense minded robots. That certainly isn't what Lettieri or Gilmour are. At issue is he's had to work with a load of first and second year players and some semi-interested vets who are either on AHL deals or more interested in hooking on to a team that enhances their NHL chances. Until the Chytil, Andersson draft and the moves at last year's deadlines the younger players we were sticking in there weren't really very good. As well because of the lack of high end prospects when we finally do get some the NHL team wants and gets them maybe sooner than they should. It's not just the growing pains the Rangers are going through because those same growing pains permeate through the entire organization.

As far as what Barron does--I don't know. It's interesting that the Rangers just did a video on him so I wouldn't be surprised if they signed him though it might be best if he does another year with Cornell. That said---if he has anything like this year next year or better I would want him to forgo his senior year and sign. If not---other options might open like packaging his rights in a trade.

Answering this here since it's the appropriate forum. It's not that I think McCambridge is creating defensive robots. I just have concerns about the defensive structure in Hartford overall based on the guys that watch like you @Beacon and @ManUtdTobbe have said. I'd rather Barron learn for another year in an actual system.

Also Barron took a really dumb penalty earlier and got bailed out by a bad embellishment call.

Starting to get really chippy in this game. Emelifeonwu of Union is a dick. A Matt Cooke but in college so he's really not that good.

Lowell season is done. Wall had a good last game, he stopped all 15 shots he faced after coming in relief. The late goal scored by BU was an EN.

What's the prognosis on Wall? Is he going to come out like Huska did or will he go back to UMass for his senior season? He should have the nets and be the starter there, but would it be beneficial for him to turn pro with all these other goalies we have? Huska is signed. Shesty won't be far behind. Georgiev has played well enough that he is a tweener. Halverson has some ugly numbers in the AHL, but Geogiev has worse down there.

We probably benefit from him staying in school for another year. We already have a crowd of goalies turning pro.

McCambridge is pretty much a newer coach and he's working with a lot of first and second year pros. And at the moment the goalies Hartford is carrying are Halverson, Huska and Nell. Hajek, Lindgren and Day in their first pro years--Crawley in his second. They are all 20/21 years old. The vets Bigras and O'Gara are both hurt. Gilmour is small and weak defensively but quite obviously he has the green light to go when he can so I don't think think the coach is at all trying to hold them back. Lettieri's over a point a game and Fogarty's offense has exploded this year as well. Depth is the biggest issue AFAIC.

If it were to me I think I'd wait another year for Barron. I think he could handle the AHL though and I'm not worried about the coaching. He'll have guys like Drury and Ortmeyer looking in on him as well. He'll play more games and do more practices and they'll tailor nutrition and workout programs for him.

Anyway I don't watch the games--I quite often listen to the play by play on the radio though.

I would rather Wall and Barron both stay in school for another year. Wall managed to get his game back on track and will likely be the clear #1 next season with Green getting about 25% of the starts. Plus he's a Mechi, so he might want to stick it out and finish his degree. That's a tough one to come back and finish later on.

Barron is having himself a breakout season, but he definitely has room to grow as a college player before turning pro.

I agree. Wall, Miller and Barron should all play in the NCAA next season.

I can't fault the UML coach for going with Hernberg. He saved their season last year after Wall fell apart and this year they had identical save percentages (before tonight) and were only separated by .04 in the GAA department, again with Hernberg playing better down the stretch. I probably would have made the same decision, even though I have a vested interest in Wall succeeding.
