Barron is exactly what you want in a late round pick. Sometimes if a kid is really good at one or two things and hasn't really grown yet, or dominates inferior competition, let them marinate at the NCAA or in Europe for a few years.

It's been talked about before but what is the deal with Reunanen's contract status for next season? And Virta as well? Do they retain rights? Both seem like they should be brought over. Reunanen seems like one of those guys who could translate really well in the NHL if given the chance and be a big part of this team's core for the next serious run.
I believe I read Reunanen extended with his club. However Finland has a transfer agreement with the NHL so we could get him over if we wanted. We control his rights until next summer.

Virta it's still unclear, since he went to the KHL he was a defected player, but then he went to the SHL which has an agreement in place. So no one is sure really when his rights expire. I would guess next summer but that's a guess.

I’m worried about Rykov not coming over for the next season or maybe even longer for a couple of reasons. I think he’s ready to start his NHL career but I don’t remember seeing a definitive statement from him about coming over after this season. I think his progress over the season has been noticed, as in interest and contract offers, and there’s been a directive from Putin about trying to keep Russia’s own young players in the KHL (read potentially high salary offers), and it is also known that SKA often sends away their young players who can’t make roster to smaller KHL clubs but continue to keep them in their “sights”.

I thought Rykov was ousted from SKA because they knew he was coming over after this season?

These were just musings around here. It’s certainly possible this is the reason why they didn’t try to find him a regular spot but it is also possible that they simply couldn’t find a spot for him and found a temporary spot for him under tutelage of Zubov - a former SKA coach himself.

Ninety seconds into the game Barron steals the puck creating a 2 on 1 making a perfect pass to his winger for a goal. Cornell adds a second goal one minute later to go up 2-0 2 1/2 minutes in. If Cornell wins tonight there is a game three tomorrow night to move onto the next round of the ECAC playoffs.

FTFY

EDIT: Quick edit to say in regards to @Ranger Ric 's comment that when Barron is active defensively on the fore and backchecks that usually means a good game is forthcoming.

A prospect like Reunanen coming into camp next year or the year after and stealing a spot on the defensive corps and not looking back would be just what the doctor ordered for this rebuild.

Cornell up 2-0 after 1. Coz21, I thought Barron had a dominant period. What do you think? One thing I've notice about him is that we has the puck the other team can't take it away from him.

I also have the Minnesota -- Notre Dame game on. Tyler Nanne can skate. Not sure why he hasn't had more production, only 13 points in 37 games playing on the second defensive pair.

I thought he was really good. Probably his best period since his scoring streak ended.

And late in the second he rings it off the pipe off a really nice move after a turnover and pass to him. He's been snake-bitten in front of net this weekend.

No more points for Barron as he sat for a majority of the third after taking a puck to the ankle. Probably precautionary since that top 6 really didn't play a whole lot especially in the last 10 minutes given the score and the way the game was trending (very chippy).

Elmer had 1+1. Neither point involved Cozens--he had a primary assist on someone's goal, and then an unassisted goal of his own that ended up the GWG.

Hughes had an assist, giving him 0-7-7 in 6 playoff games. Caution here, the BCHL changes their scoring at insane rates. I pointed out earlier he had 2 assists in 4 games a week or so back, then the next day they magically found 3 more assists for him an he suddenly had 5 in 4. So we'll see. Victoria is in Round 2.

Keane had two assists.

Kjellberg was scoreless. After his incredible streak of two points in two games, he has subsequently gone nine games without a point. He does have a marvelous two shots in this time, so clearly bad luck is to blame for his struggles.

Wall stopped 27/31 and picked up the W.

Lindbom allowed 3 on 19 shots and got the loss.

Wonder if Wall will get the start in game 3 today VS BU. Lowell got shut out 3-0 in game one. That goalie let the 3 in on 25 shots. Wall let in 4 on 31.

Game at 4.

I would wager they go with Hernberg. Game 1 I'm pretty sure it was actually only two goals allowed by him with an ENG. His game log says he was 24/26 that game.

Wall pitched a shutout February 8. Hernberg followed with one the next night. From that point, looks like Hernberg was a bit better in his four starts than Wall was in his five starts.

We'll see, though. I wouldn't be surprised if we left Wall for another year, since he should be the clear number one unless he blows it. Huska, by contrast, lost his job and with the other kid Vomacka looking really promising, might not have had a chance to get it back next season.

Its depressing with all these kids looking great, but I just can't excited about another LD prospect.

Zero openings in the NHL, barely any openings in the AHL...
