Would you be fine with drafting Knight if we end up with all four 1sts and he's still on the board for the 2nd one?

No, drafting goalies before round four is a waste of value and draft capital.

And just to follow this up, here's a quote from GMJG in the Brooks' article

The GM, however, pledged, “We won’t take a goaltender … in the first round.”

No. I watched Shesterkin for years in the KHL. And I wasn't watching Russian hockey, I was watching him specifically. Not all his games, but I saw him more than a couple dozens of times in the world's second best league plus the WJC. I have been saying he's our top prospect for years now. I believe he has the chance to be a star in the NHL. Maybe not, but then Geo is Plan B. If not, we can trade for a goalie, they usually don't cost much. And in the meanwhile, we can keep drafting them in rounds 4-7.

It's not just that we have two quality goalie prospects, the other issue is that they are not predictable. Every time I say Shesterkin can be great, I squirm because, as with any goalie, he can pull a Jim Carrey BS on us (look up his career in the 90s). But we used a 3rd rounder on him. If we use a first rounder and we still have the issue of goalies being unpredictable, it's that much worse. I never like drafting goalies early under any circumstances.

I mostly agree besides swapping Kravtsov and K'andre. Maybe moving Hajek down a little too. The best part is this pool is only gonna get better too with at least 3 other picks in the top 62. What a time to be alive

I agree with this list almost 100%. That top 9 is basically what I have, except I would drop Rykov to 8 or 9. Man, the Rangers and Grots have come a hell of a long way since Day was in our top 3 lmao

Krava played well as a teenager in the 2nd best league in the world. Miller dominated college hockey. Not sure how anyone can have Miller over Krava.

My top-5 would be:
1. Kakko/Hughes
2. Krava
3a. Miller
3b. Nils
5. Shesty

The other would be Tarmo, Hajek, Rykov, Barron, Lindgren (not necessarily in this order).

Tarmo and Barron were big risers this year. I can see someone like Ragnar and Sjalin shooting up the list next season.

I'd swap Nils and Miller but other than that, it's the same.

Kravtsov is very clearly the number 2 prospect let’s make no mistake. Love Miller but he’s not where Kravtsov is right now. Kravtsov is a top 5 prospect outside the NHL right now.

Sweet top-10, I'd only move Kravtsov and Shesterkin into 2-3 spots.

I think Gross should be in there somewhere. He player well at the WJCs. He has a future imo. Prospect Radio coverage on NHL on Sirius really liked Gross’ game when the WJCs ended

Nils is too high for me.

Mine would probably be like:
KK
Kravy

KAndre

Hajak
Nils/Keane
[Shesty]

Rykov
Pajuniemi
Lindgren
Gross
Barron
Reunanen

But I’ve always felt that goalies can’t really be ranked together with skaters. What is a goalies upside?

How about that for a prospect pool.
I would put Lindgren a little higher somehow. Really Really liked his small sample size with the big club this year.

Not sure where else to post this since the draft and UDFA thread is closed but according to Hockeynews.se, the Rangers offered a contract to UMass Lowell D-man Mattias Göransson, but he decided to decline and move back to Sweden to play for Leksand instead. He will play alongside Calle Själin this coming season so expect him to still be on the radar

I think our threshold for taking a player out of the prospect category is 65 NHL games played. Howden just squeaks out but Lias is at 49 and Lettieri is at 46. Not sure what it is for a goalie but Georgiev has 43.

Jesus you guys love sliding Shesty down these rankings...

I get the whole goalie thing, but this kid has literally done just about everything someone his age can do outside the NHL.

And behind Lundkvist? Cmon now.

Yeah, total BS. There's nothing else he could've possibly done. Goalie or not, there is a much higher chance of him being sn impact player than Lundkvist. He has arguably the highest odds of being a superstar of any of our current prospects (Kakko not ours yet). Goalies have higher odds of failure because a middle-6 forward is still valuable, but a backup or even low-end starter has zero trade value.

But high upside should count for something. If you go into a coma today and wake up in 5 years to find out Shesterkin established himself as a perennial All Star, are you stunned? Probably not even a little bit.
