Keane was scoreless and even with five shots. London won Game 1.

Gross was scoreless and -1. Oshawa lost in OT.

Kjellberg has yet to register a statistic in his game, with about 10 to play.

I think there is some kind of glitch in the system that is preventing Kjellberg's stats from being officially recorded.

Was actually going to post this yesterday. The most likely scenario I can think of is that 'Kjellberg' is the stop code for whatever statistics program they're using.

Every time he scores one of his patented highlight-reel goals, or threads a typical pass through five defenders, or heck, clears the puck and it happens to go on net registering a shot; the program just reads his name as the stop code, and all we see are zeroes across the board.

Just a friendly reminder that we’re talking about a sixth round pick here, so whether one believes there is nepotism or not, this is really a non-news item.

Nepotism or not, it was a terrible pick that the vast majority of the board was immediately sour on.

I'm not going to spend any time researching the other defensemen taken after him in the draft, but I would be surprised if I found more than one (if that) whom I wouldn't swap Kjellberg for straight up.

I don’t have any particularly strong feelings for or against the pick.

I think it’s the drama around it on here that’s actually far more interesting.

I think swapping him for most anyone near or around there would be the equivalent or rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, but it is what it is.

Well, if you truly believe Kjellberg was a wasted, throw-away pick, that should still be troubling even in round six. As we all know, you can assemble a pretty damn good team of guys drafted in the sixth round or later.

Then why pick any players after the 5th round at all?

For curiosity's sake, the guy taken immediately after Kjellberg (Mike Kesselring) was also a first-year eligible defenseman. Prior to his draft year, he put up 34 points in 38 high school games; and this season he has put up 32 points in 65 USHL games. A far cry from Simon's 5 points.

Granted, I don't know the circumstances behind Kesselring's numbers, but I'll take the unknown guy who has over 6x the amount of points.

I view it as pick that hasn’t shown progress and doesn’t look like a good pick.

I can’t say I view it was a throwaway pick.

I’m not sure I understand the premise of your statement.

Sixth round picks are long shots. Kjellberg is a long a shot. Thus far, he’s a long a shot that hasn’t worked out.

Does that suck? Yes.

Is that something that I’m going to lose sleep over and really dwell on?

Probably not.

And the truth is that this is less about a sixth round pick performing like many sixth round picks perform. This is about a bigger issue that a certain portion of this board has with the pick.

My premise is based around Kjellberg being much more than a long shot. Most guys taken in the 6th/7th round are still a step ahead of their average peers. Kjellberg's numbers don't look any better than a decent beer leaguer would put up; and that was basically predicted by the board.

Referencing my above post, Kesselring went immediately after him and has put up about 0.5 P/GP in the same league. That's a long shot. Kjellberg was a throwaway pick.

My biggest issue with the whole “it’s a 6th round pick, and those picks are longshots anyways” argument is, at what point does it stop?

This was a wasted pick, straight up. Hopefully it doesn’t become a habit

I don’t think the Rangers would ever just throw away a pick.

I think they could misjudge, I think they could completely miss, but that’s not the same thing to me.

But I will say, straight up, that I don’t think that’s what this is about. I think there’s the belief, by some, that this was a nepotism pick. So there’s always going to be that extra little push for some people.

At the end of the day, none of this is really a huge deal or a surprise. Could there be better sixth round picks out there? Sure.

Is this one looking good thus far? Nope.

Are we going to spend more time on this then we normally would? Probably.

And where do WE draw the line on how obsessive we’re going to be?

Where do we draw the line on bitching for the sake of bitching?

If we are the absolute best drafting team in the league, we’re still going to have misses.

Does anyone like that? Of course not. But in the same vein, is a sixth round pick really going to be that hill?

No thanks.
