Blues are 9-3 on the road. NHL Network said if they win tonight, first team to win the Cup with a losing home record.
Binnington has been great. I am a big ROR fan, even when they were playing poorly thru Jan, he was good. Not just putting up points but usually has impact shifts. He is (IMO) a very good leader. He's been very good in the playoffs, clutch points and also impact shifts. It is those impact shifts that teammates respond to. He has found a real home as a leader on the Blues.
Looks like Binnington is a wall tonight.
And that, in part, is why nobody is going to give the Kings anything for Quick. Not that it's normal to pull a goalie out of your ass in a rapidly deteriorating season and win the Cup, but there are too many goalies that are capable of getting hot.
And Binnington was a 3rd round selection, 88th overall in 2011. Took him eight seasons to graduate to the NHL, and he spent a full season in the ECHL as well. He'll be turning 26 in four weeks, and is 20 minutes away from winning the Stanley Cup.
Five goaltenders were selected ahead of Binnington in his draft year. One of those goaltenders? Christopher Gibson, who the Kings selected in the 2nd round at 49th overall.
It will be a huge flaw now just like it was after the Leighton/Niemi final if we go back to the 'all you need is replacement level goaltending' schtick.
Don't see the Flames loving their unproven guy who could get hot right now.
A great goalie is a lot better than a coin flip and a prayer that he could get hot.
