I just wartched a jvr video and hes living in mike richards old apartment.
And it just makes me so pumped for this season. Jvr is no small piece to add to this flyers team. We were already a playoff team and we have the benefit of a more healthy simmonds, advanced Konecny, Patrick, Lindblom, Ghost, Provorov, Sanheim, Giroux coming off 102 points, Voracek coming off his best season, hopefully healthy Elliot. And believe it or not, another year of development from the junior NHL coach who was formerly a pretty successful NCAA coach

I would have preferred Stastny over JVR (not that I wouldn't have taken both, Stastny's deal would have expired before it hurt, and obviously we have room for JVR's deal in year 4 and 5), because 3C is a bigger hole than 2LW if Lindblom improves over last season.
As much as I like Frost and Vorobyev, giving them another season to develop wouldn't hurt.
The bottom six will be better, but how much better?

The problem with that is recruiting is a huge part of success at the college level. Probably the bigger factor.

Haks ability to convince moms that their sons should play for the Flyers doesn't help us much.

It depends entirely on who it is. For me this is the beginning of the next phase and it's on the young guys to sieze the opportunity. Certain financial realities exist and theres a chemistry element as well but i don't see why lehtera weiss leir and weal should all make the team. There should be no less than two and as many as 4 spots open at forward. This is the period where the rubber hits the road as far as our highly ranked development system is concerned. At defense i see it as sanheim has a spot to lose which can happen if he looks like the player we saw early last year and myers could get a nice long look an probably slot himself in to the 8th spot as the first call up. Friedman or god forbid brennan could bypass him for it though

Hakstol played Lehtera and Weise as little as possible last year, Lehtera only played 8:19 minutes at ES (Read 8:43) in the playoffs.
Problem is someone has to beat them out
Lindblom, Simmonds, Raffl, Laughton are locks for the bottom six.

But that leaves 2 spots, Frost, Vorobyev, Weal, NAK, MV, Bardreau are the obvious candidates
However, Frost has to show he's NHL ready, Vorobyev may need more AHL seasoning to start the year, Weal has to show he can play center in the NHL (no room at wing), NAK isn't a center, and MV and Bardreau may not be upgrades over Lehtera.

If Frost is sent back to juniors, I think Ron will look around and see if he can't pry free a veteran center with a year or two left on his contract.

You can’t “beat out” one of Hakstol favorites by performing better.

He’s proved that quality of play isn’t taken into consideration.

Yeah, it’s crazy how Patrick’s TOI inversely correlated with his quality of play.

Insane how he didn’t give Patrick PP1 minutes over Simmonds in the playoffs.

Insane how he refuses to give Provorov big minutes as a young defensemen, or promote Couturier to 1C.

Insane how he pushed to re-sign Weal after he played great after his call-up in ‘17.

Giroux, Couturier, Patrick, vorobyev at center... Frost makes the team on LW like Gagne did at that age. Hopefully Myers gets better. Vorobyev raffl Laughton on 4th line. What I would like to see... Obviously, Morin comes around when he is nice and ready.

Frost isn't a winger :help:

If Striiker would confine his Hakstol nonsense to the Hakstol thread, we might actually be able to discuss the Flyers in other threads.
Every other Striiker post is "Hakstol wants to play his worst players . . . "
Yes, we know what Striiker thinks, or what passes for "thinking."

Just imagine how productive we would be if Hakstok were fired. Oh boy.

That's two uses of this tongue twisting trash today.

The Hive has decreed the official word is "Striiperbole." It has just come to my attention that it also looks conspicuously like "Stripper pole," which is pretty cool.

I can deal with “Striiperbole.”
I didn’t like “Striikerbole.”

Hakstol played Lehtera and Weise as little as possible last year, Lehtera only played 8:19 minutes at ES (Read 8:43) in the playoffs.

On the PK in the playoffs:

Name TOI/GP
Sean Couturier 3:59
Matt Read 3:53
Valteri Filppula 2: 35
Jori Lehtera 2:25
Scott Laughton 0:37
Claude Giroux 0:34
Michal Raffl 0:15

RS PK GA/60 (HD Corsi and Scoring chance rates are similarly distributed):

Taylor Leier 14.41
Valteri Filppula 11.77
Jori Lehtera 11.33
Sean Couturier 9.61
Scott Laughton 7.78
Claude Giroux 7.52
Michael Raffl 6.62
Wayne Simmonds 6.58
Matt Read 5.45

I'll hang up and listen while you explain how he was playing Lehtera as little as possible when all three of the players below him in playoff PK icetime were significantly more effective penalty killers during the regular season. Wouldn't that imply that they should have beaten out Lehtera (and Filppula, for that matter?).
