Just for contract purposes i'm fine with him going the length of the Tourney incase the Avs miss out.

If they win again tomorrow they won’t finish their season until at least April 11, which would mean he wouldn’t burn a year IF the Avs miss the playoffs.

... and passes it back to Makar who, after learning from MacKinnon, button hooks on the other side of the ice...

Can you imagine? Makar to MacKinnon, button hook then pass to Makar who's breaking into the zone. Makar button hooks, opening up room to Girard who spins and spins into open space. Girard passes to Rantanen, who for no reason at all sticks out his caboose to knock someone over. Rants to MacK, button hook to Makar, button hook to Girard, spin to Rants (thicc). Rants gets it a changing EJ who immediately lobs it into a shin pad, breakaway against, goal.

Well...the Avs do have a history of trying to be too fancy dating all the way back to the Forsberg/Sakic years.

Short-handed goal scored by Ryan O'Reilly

Either way he likely does the same thing Bowers does. He could play top minutes and be a star for the Eagles on a more serious playoff run than playing 3rd pairing and 2nd PP minutes for the Avs.

All while Landeskog parks in front of the net and then is also the only one who skates back to try and prevent the goal

If you are Makar what is the incentive to go to the AHL?

He is clearly a NHL player right now, would get paid less, wouldn't burn his 1st year, no games against top competition etc.

What makes you think it is an option for him? Its pretty cut and dry. "Hey Cale we can't play you this year without exposing you to the entry draft and its a bit too late in the year to get you integrated with our team and the guys up there have battled all year and deserve those spots. Join the guys in the AHL and try and win a Calder Cup playing top line minutes and continue to be the guy to finish out the year and adjust to the higher level game and come into next year ready to play big NHL minutes".

As with Bowers I'm sure he would like to burn a year of his ELC but unfortunately due to the timing of the ED its just not an option. These are reasonable kids, not prima donnas. Avs understood when he told them he wanted to go back and play another year in college and he will understand why ATO + next year ELC is the best path this year. Hes still a prospect and you gotta earn your way up, nothing is given to you in the NHL just because you are a high draft pick. If he comes into next season with an Ego that locker room will fix that real quick when he's tying Gabes skates before every game haha

The way I see it its exactly the other way around. The Avs have no leverage to be making such demands, they are not going to treat their best prospect since MacKinnon like Bowers. Makar is arguably the best drafted prospect in the world and is going to be a solid NHLer straight away. You don't bury someone like that in the AHL just because of an expansion draft.

Lets agree to disagree then haha. I don't think you are viewing this situation very realistically, seem to be projecting your own personality on Makar a bit here.

Its not that complicated, "Hey sorry we can't sign you to an ELC until next year due to the ED draft. If you can play a big role on the Eagles and work on development in a playoff style atmosphere before summer if you'd like, or you could take some time to heal". Whats Makar going to do haha.

Probably not risking future money in the AHL.

He isn't risking anything, you can sign the ELC now and make extra on the ATO. A ton of players do it, its the same thing Bowers did.

That's like saying he's risking future money playing in the Frozen 4. Its silly.

It's funny because Dreger said the Avs were anxious to sign him... But i'm sure you know better.
