I just don't see they hype with Duchene. He had hits and played ok, but he's one overpriced player, imho.
Bruce about to go supernova
Hags has more goals since being traded than Duchene.
I've always been scared for this man. Not joking either.
In order to beat Tampa (if they meet again in the postseason) Caps need 9-2 and Holtby at their best. I don't think Tampa's defense is that good, Caps can handle them.I hope Rierden tells the boys to come with playoff attitude when we play TB. They look incredible. I still think the game plan we used against them in the playoffs last year will work.
It was clear how you beat Tampa last year, you play physical

Letang was out of his sort for the entire season after a major surgery. When he's on like he was in 2016 playoffs he's a workhorse. If there's any team that you can't beat relying heavily on a physical part of the game, its the Pens. You have to match their speed or you're doomed.Yep, and I think its true for all teams. There were many instances last year where a specific physical play paid instant dividends. Oshie destroying Letang had him playing drunk. He couldn't even play a 2 on 2 correctly - skated off the ice IIRC. Willy on Kunitz. Oshie KO's 2 Vegans in the offensive zone led to 2 goals. I think Willy destroying Karlsson early in the finals made him check out.
One of my favorites though, goes largely unnoticed. Watch old man Orpik at the beginning of each series. He would step up and CLOBBER someone at our blue, and serve notice early on to all opposition forwards. By him doing that, it made everyone's job easier. He was our Willy on the backend.
I am sure there were countless other hits that left marks. I think Orpik injured Vanek after their awesome 1 on 1 battle, for he checked out early in that series, too.

I thought Letang looked bad all series long . Skill and tending - sure but Caps were a very skilled team 1-2 years ago and I liked Holtby's goaltending in 2016 but they got steamrolled in 2016 (that deciding OT was a total chaos in the Caps' zone because they were just a way slower team). With all things being more or less equal the speed is a deciding factor.Where Letangs play noticed lacked after Oshie projectile missile / fought him, was all mental.
It's not just speed, it's skill, but most importantly, tending.
Am I wrong that it was actually the same guy twice? I remember a temper tantrum after the second hit.Yep, and I think its true for all teams we faced. He's a legend. His record may be as untouchable of some of Gretzky's.
One of my fondest memories, and favorite stories sitting in section 101? with the duct tape work boot foot stompers, he gets inadvertently tripped up by P* Sundstrom on an icing and his body crashed hard into the boards which was the touch up. I could see him yapping coming back up ice towards me. Another icing was about to be called seconds later, only he turned at the last moment and grabbed Sundstrom and pinned him up to the corner glass and started punching away. Tiger Williams came up and cross checked Holt in the back of the head/neck proper and broke his stick in half. Huge pile of course and Langway emerged with a cut forehead - tiger was hungry. All 3 officials were on Holt at one point, and he as basically doing push ups with all 3 on his back, trying to escape - super human strength fueled by rage. Tiger got a match and suspended late in the season, which helped Holts win the coveted MVPIM crown that year, by 10, over one Tiger Williams.

Check out #13. I suspect he was an influence on a young and impressionable 18 year old Scott Stevens. I think he may have even been Stevens first ever RD.
I found this account of the game - check it out. 99% sure it wasn't Tanti to set him off, however. I would remember if it was Tiny Tony Tanti. Holts would not attack a player that he didn't feel deserved it. He and all abide by the code.
It wouldn't be so good if he didn't look like the quintessential 70's hockey player. I'm looking at his Hockey DB and cackling. 41 points in nearly 400 GP and he played from 74-84. I feel like in that era you could of put a deadman on your second line and he still would be good for at least 15 points a year.
