The only thing with Engvall is that he is not going to be good enough to be a 3C on a competitive team. It would be like putting a prime Komarov or Hyman as a 4C. Sure they could do a pretty good job, but it would not be significantly better than a guy like Gauthier would put up (and he does not have significantly more upside as a center than Gauthier), and they would never be full time 3C's.

However, you could easily see them play a complementary role in the top 9 on the wing (like Komarov and Hyman have done for us). Personally, especially considering we are thin on top 9 LW's, I would rather play him higher and put him on the wing than use him as a 4C.

Also remember that Brooks and Aaltonen are capable 4C options as well. I just don't see why you move over a guy with a legitimate shot at being a quality top 9 winger to put him at 4C, which is not something we lack in our pool, or is very difficult to find for cheap.

Marchments U24 numbers look comparable to Hymans. To those that regularly watch the Marlies, is Marchment the type of player Babcock could fall in love with at training camp?

He's basically Abdelkader without the wheels. That means it could go either way....

In theory, we could promote A LOT of Marlies we wanted to.

Trevor Moore
Mason Marchment
Jeremy Bracco
Pierre Engvall
Rasmus Sandin
Timothy Liljegren
Called Rosen

7 players on this team that could realistically see NHL time next season.

Add in guys like Timashov, and Borgman who could be spares or injury call ups when needed as well.

Ridiculous how well Sheldon Keefe is developing these players. I’m glad we have him there for another season.

SDA has 4 points in 12 games for the Growlers between the season and playoffs. Not bad for an 18 year old playing against men.

I really hope he’s away from the Petes next season. There’s something funky going on there.

I dont think hes played in a while with them. Not a shock though given age and players on the team currently.

Anyone know if hes still with the Growlers practising?

We stack our first powerplay unit like the Marlies do but seem to pull them after about a minute every time. Keefe leaves Moore, Timashov, Bracco, Mueller and Sandin out there for almost the entire 2 minutes.

This seems like an easy way to get your most talented players on the ice more. I’m not sure why the Leafs load up one unit and then don’t play them anymore than the second unit.

I partially agree with you but not fully here. I think when watching the Marlies the difference seems to be in that last minute when the first unit stays on they are literally in the opponents end the entire time. If the opponent PK cleared the puck later in the PP they would definitely change but they keep it in the zone. The reason for this is obviously much weaker PKs in the AHL vs the NHL.

That being said a lot of NHL PKs do leave their first unit out for 1:30 even if there is a clear. They will change in the last 35-30 seconds if the puck gets cleared though. Thats probably what we should have been doing.

That being said if Nylander, Bracco, Kapanen/Moore is on our 2nd unit next year i have no issues with them playing the last 45 seconds of the PP.

Well said, Keefe’s doing bang up work.

I tend to think the ‘overcooking ‘ approach will continue. But I’ve been wondering if Tima and Carcone are showing enough to seriously compete for regular playing time next year...in complimentary roles, of course.

I hear you with the differences between the AHL and NHL but to me it seems like an easy way to get your best players more minutes. To stack your first unit with Matthews, Tavares, Kadri, Marner, Rielly and then pull them after 45 seconds seems like a total waste. JMO.

1-0 Marlies on Bracco’s goal. Another point for Sandin.

They just called a 4 min spearing call on Timashov though.

Not sure about the stream, sorry. Watching on LeafsTv

Spearing?
Thought I read Tima cross checked someone in the face at the end of yesterday’s game....not sure if true?
Getting a little edgy with the lumber.
