If anything happens to Carter this season the kings will be in trouble

Are you f***ing serious.

Ugh tough article. Seems like it will never be the same and they're hoping to be at least similar to where he was at.

I think some people here seem to forget that Carter is going to be 34 this season and is coming off a pretty serious injury.

I mean we can be optimistic to get 1 or 2 more good years out of Carter, but father time is undefeated vs. everyone but Tom Brady, so it wouldn't be shocking if he fell off a bit this season, either way his presumed linemates better play a hell of a lot better than they did last season, no matter how good Carter plays.

The Kings are relying on a two 34yo's, a 31yo and a 35yo to be their top offensive players.

Stevens needs to roll the lines and reduce/remove these guys PK exposure in order to lower their ice-time and keep the team more balanced. Personnel wise were not really setup to do this unfortunately.

Where does it say it's a spine issue?

If he working with this guy, you can conclude it's a spine issue imo.
As a clinician, Dr. Meyer has served the Los Angeles community over the last 16 years specializing in biomechanical movement analysis and its relationship with orthopedic and sports injuries. He utilizes functional exercise and manual physical therapy treatment techniques to rehabilitate a variety of orthopedic and sports medicine injuries. Dr. Meyer is a senior physical therapist for the Department of Athletic Medicine at the University of Southern California. He is the President and CEO of the Institute of Sports Physical Therapy providing orthopedic physical therapy, biomechanical movement analysis and preventative sports performance programs to a variety of professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, UFC, USA Volleyball and Track and Field. Dr. Meyer has also served as a rehabilitation and performance consultant for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL.
His interests in spinal disorders, and upper and lower extremity injuries, have led him to serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California and Mount St. Mary’s College in the Departments of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy. He is also a graduate of, and instructor for, the Gray Institute of Applied Functional Science. He frequently lectures throughout the country to physical therapists, doctors, and other healthcare practitioners on various topics related to functional physical therapy and biomechanics.
Originally from Hutchinson, Kansas, he attained his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and Orthopaedic Residency Certificate from the University of Southern California after earning a B.S. degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas. Dr. Meyer became a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics in 2002 and 2012.

Life After a Spinal Cord Injury

Your Physical Capabilities Will Change

People who survive spinal cord injuries often fixate on paralysis, the most severe symptom:
  • Difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels;
  • Difficulty with sexual function, arousal, libido, and fertility;
  • Pain at the site of the injury, or phantom pain that radiates elsewhere;
  • Tingling sensations;
  • Changed sensations throughout your body;
  • Gastrointestinal problems;
  • Difficulty breathing without assistance, or changes in your breathing, such as the development of sleep apnea;
  • Skin problems, especially bedsores. Getting plenty of activity may help with this issue since bedsores are typically the product of lying in bed.
He should be just fine

It sounds like the guy is a scoliosis/lordosis expert. Maybe there's something minor with his curvature that his muscles are having to compensate for.

If it is scoliosis, that is workable. With exercises and treatment. And I would think in LA , you'd have some of the best around.

I believe if they can do that, keep his back strong, he's going to be a top talent. Nice to see a future with JAD riding shotgun on his line.

It's shocking to see it's taken the LA Kings this long to get Vilardi on the right track. The Kings trainers have a long history of ineptness and it looks like it's still there. It's 2018, the Kings took Vilardi with their first draft pick and they currently don't know what is wrong with his back? Somebody needs to be fired for this. To say somebody has a "bad back" in 2018 is just plain moronic.

Why in the f*** do they have an obligation to disclose to the public exactly what's wrong with it?

It sounds like they know what it is and they're being cautious. Bringing aboard a premium back specialist to keep an eye on it doesn't scream ineptitude to me, and taking their time screams 'caution' to me realizing it's about the next couple of decades not the next couple of months.

I agree with you that I'm sure they know a lot more than that he just has "back problems" but as for the bolded: Because the Public is paying for the product. You wouldn't sink money into buying a car if the salesman said "It's got some mechanical stuff, day to day" would you? Our dollars make their lives possible, I don't think it's unreasonable as fans to want to know what's going on.

Of course it's reasonable to WANT to know what's going on.

It's also completely reasonable for a team to not disclose the exact injury when it hasn't even been fully treated.

And it's totally unreasonable to slam the organization as inept and unknowing when it hasn't played out.
