I trust that our coaches that he'll be released early. He was even in the Swiss league a regular healthy scratch.
He'll be a King the same amount of time as this guy.

Watching that is a reminder why they picked up Grimson. Such an embarrassment to get knocked around like that by Detroit.

Deadmarsh was a huge add as well. It also helped that the team had moved on from stiffs like Garry Galley and Bob Corkum as well. Watching those clips, dear God were they awful.

I know I'm late to the Modry parade, but he was actually really solid for us during his second stint here, like shockingly solid. I'll never forgive DT for losing P. Boucher too, he was such a good D man in his prime.

Yeah that and he would always have his best games against the Kings. I hated those Stars teams with Turco.

It's my fault. I got a Boucher jersey and then he signed with Dallas.

Any time a player was due for a raise, you can bet Leiweke and Kevin Gilmore were going to f*** them over.

Look at how many times the Kings had guys hold out and miss training camp. Happened with Norstrom, Stumpel, we witnessed them insult long timers like Blake and Luc to the point that they were forced out, Boucher didn't even get an offer, and that was after he finally showed why he was worth trading Zhitnik for.

This is probably out there but the morning show guys on Sportnet 960 here in Calgary just brought up how Lucic requested a deal last season. I remember that being rumored last year but they mentioned a wrinkle I had never heard before. They said Lucic's wife and kids moved back to LA mid season last year. Has anyone else heard that?

As someone who used to live in Edmonton I feel for those fans. They have so much passion but why would a player want to play in Edmonton over other destinations that would have a beach, Broadway or you know less than 8 months of shitty weather. Living in Edmonton depressed the hell out of me and I didn't have millions of money to make my life interesting.

Anyway. With max retention (or even retention to bring him to like 4-4.5M) I would have welcomed him back. Not now that LA has Kovalchuk.

It's great that players now love being here, and Looch seems to have a lot of friends on the team. Good for him. I wouldn't be surprised if that news re: his family is true.

If it's about hockey, though, not appeasing people, I don't see a way to make Lucic happen again.

only thing i could see is if Kovalchuk is a bust and LA deals his contract (assuming he would even waive for Edmonton) to the Oilers for a retained Lucic. Big assumption there though and LA would buggered if Kovalchuk doesn't work out even if it leads to above deal

There would be zero logic to a Lucic trade unless the Kings want to add a lot of salary and slowness to the lineup.

Yeah its cool he's cool with the Kings players but the dude can f*** off about hockey lol

He had that chance and blew it. If being a King, along with the perks (Manhattan beach, weather, etc>) were important to him, he'd have signed the deal DL offered. He went for the money. And now he's a slow , aging player in a young fast game and can't keep up. The reason he hasn't been deal, not many teams would take that on, even with salary retained. He would not help the Kings.

Anyway, on the wife thing, there was a hint of something in this article. Doesn't say she moved but indicated why she might have.

Where will Milan Lucic end up next year? One destination stands out

Let’s deal first with Lucic’s desire to leave, where Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman had this to say on Vancouver radio: “I think he wants to get out of Canada. I don’t think he wants to play here anymore. I think that’s another situation where the wife has seen how much heat the player has taken, I think, and isn’t always comfortable with that.”

Also, this....

And the legacy until last year was: he’s a power forward, he’s won a Stanley Cup, he’s a guy that ‘s going to help you you win, he’s what you want on a hockey team and he’s what you want in a hockey player. But you’re right, the year was frustrating for him because he just couldn’t get things done, he just couldn’t keep up to the speed of the game, and it looked like it was kind of passing him by and the fact that he didn’t have any production …

Lucic does not mesh well with fast, skill centres lke McDavid or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, as they see and make plays at a speed that is too much for Lucic. He not just a step behind them, he’s three or four steps

The article does point out that although he cannot become faster, there are ways to change your style , even skating strides, to appear to be faster. And as pointed out, fans tend to focus on (and i would to) what he's making salary wise and the numbers/points that should go wit hit. 10Goals/34 pts isn't worth the money he's being paid. But that's water under the bridge. His pride took a hit , he was criticized by fans and media for his play last year. Maybe he can change that, but asking for out of Canada won't help. But it might be that the fans have to see him a bit differently, as the article points out. Not by what he was but what he is now, an effective two way player and PK'er but not a point producer.

Essentially, everyone needs to forget about Lucic’s salary, forget about what he was in the past, focus on what he can do now, and realize that in a more limited role Lucic can be a valuable player on a winning Oilers team.
