I was taking a look the schedule and mapping out potential trips for next year. I started looking at Arizona's March schedule to see who'd they would be playing during Spring Training and I saw that the Kings have a Saturday game out there. Squeezing in a 1pm baseball game with a 7pm hockey game is a fun time, although Spring Training has gotten relatively expensive for what it is.

Pretty much all of the criticism of LaDue is exactly what some are concerned about with him at this level.

Hence the reason why Brickley is looking more and more likely to start the season with the Kings. While LaDue certainly will still be in the mix, I don't think his spot on the roster is guaranteed. It's going to come down to Brickely, LaDue, MacDermid and Fantenberg to pin down two spots.

Pronman also projects that Brickley will be a regular for the Kings next season.

With an NHL salary if he's in the AHL, someone will have to beat out LaDue. My guess is him and Brickley start the year, but only time will tell. They might even go 8D if Amadio starts in Ontario. I don't think he would, but the non-waiver option is there.

It's so odd to me that he leaves out Petersen from the top 10 and has Prokhorkin and Kubalik ranked ahead of him. Did Basilik do these rankings?

He said in the primer that he views goalies very conservatively. And as he also explained, there’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes to contract situations around Prokhorkin and Kubalik. Don’t think that means they shouldn’t be viewed as talented individuals.

Re: LaDue, I don't think Pronman is saying anything novel, we all kind of agree it's time for him to show up or it might be too late here. But I pointed that out as it may be a matter of 'man strength' rather than lack of ability. Some posters seem to think LaDue is totally lost in the defensive end and I completely disagree. He's just in tough on the walls and with bigger forwards; he's in the right spot, but may not be able to do anything about it. That's a different development problem than having no defensive brain (i.e. my criticism of Clague). Maybe splitting hairs I guess but I think that's an important factor that may see him with an NHL job at some point as Jamie McBain was able to pull it off too.

haven't heard this of Clague before. I was thinking LA did well on these rankings because we have good NHL talent at C (Vilardi) , D (Clague) and G (Peterson).

if they're dead set on Brickley making the team, you trade LaDue so you dont lose him on waivers and keep MacDermid as the #7.

I think Brickley goes down, MacD stays as the #7 and LaWho makes the team. But we'll see.

If MacD makes the kings will have huge issues or MacD made huge strides. I like Macs toughness however he needs to be able to play at least 16 mins a game and so far he hasn't shown to me that hes good enough to play more then 12 I would much rather see ladue fantenburg or even Brickley make it over Mac. I would sacrfice Macs toughness for a faster more offensive skilled defenseman.

I think Brickley starts the season in Ontario. Macdermid sucks people just love him cause he’s a tough guy. He will get waived . Ladue and Fantenberg make the team in the beginning and we will see how they perform.

People freaking out about losing fringe players to waivers. Happens on every single team board, and 99/100 times those fringe players just clear waivers. Every team has LaDue's and MacD's.

No way are the Kings going to send down Brickley just to prevent a #7 or #8 d-man with minimal upside from hitting waivers. Now if Brickley doesn't have a good camp and gets beaten out, sure he can go down, but protecting fringe players like LaDue and MacD shouldn't matter in that decision.

Is it fair to assume that Vilardi will make the team out of camp? I know that seems to be the belief but I'd be curious to hear your thoughts. What is a realistic point projection for him this year if he played third line minutes?

We all had a little bit of scare when he opted out of the junior showcase with an injury, but reports suggest that he's going to be fine by camp. I think if he's fully healthy we should expect him on the roster for he has nothing left to prove in juniors at this point. I feel we may ease him into the lineup slowly because as we sit right now I think our 3rd line may be Iafallo-Kempe-Lewis.

People love MacDermid because he's the Ivanans replacement people never knew they wanted.

If I've said it once then I've said it a thousand times then, if he does edge work and improve his lateral movement he will be a very solid dman.

He's fast for his height in straightline speed but sucks at agility. If he can improve that..

Got it, thanks! So he may even be 4th line unless he does really well and takes a Top 9 spot on the wing?

I think even then they'll want to manage his minutes/games played given history. Even Iafallo was awesome last year but he wore down as the season went on, definitely don't want to throw a guy with low games played per season coming off a big injury into big minutes while he's still growing imo...but yeah as others said I could see him moonlighting all over the lineup and getting PP time

Vilardi will play sheltered non defensive minutes. I would not be surprised to see him play the odd shift with Carter too.
