Wasn't he suppose to be the Frolov replacement?

After the whole Kovalchuk dance. He was supposed to replace Frolov, Then Ponikarovsky wasn't scoring enough, so they tried Sturm, then Penner, then the Richards trade, then they tried Gagne, then Carter, then Brown stopped scoring, then it was Gaborik, then it was Lucic. All that in 5 years. If Kovalchuk had just signed the first time, it would be interesting to know how much of everything else would've still happened or not. All those wingers might not have been attempted, but Richards was too much of a Lombardi player, that one probably still happens.

Ponikarovsky was such a slow skater. Obviously my PTSD kicked in cause I can't remember the golden days where we had Ethan Moreau AND Hunter "blazing" down the wings. Lmao.

All we needed was a broken down Souray to achieve ultimate GRIT

And Handzus too Aka Hotwheels. My only clear memory of him was Pronger jumping him after he shot at the end of the period. Lmao.

Ah found it !

Talk about a beating.

Holy shit I totally forgot about Marco Sturm.

When the Kings signed Handzus he was coming off a major ACL injury. It took a long time for him to recover and he was subpar in his first season here. In his 2nd and 3rd seasons with LA he hit his stride and played really solid.

I loved the Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds line. Heavy as hell.

That was a fantastic line, especially for the style of play at the time.

Except Frolov was a puck hog and would hold onto the puck for the entire shift in the corner.

Holy **** I totally forgot about Marco Sturm.

Sturm was on the team for what felt like two weeks, but it was long enough to print some t-shirts.

Sheldon Souray. Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long, long time.

Weren't we linked to him at one point as well? Memory doesn't serve me correctly.

I'm the proud owner of one of those.

Makes a good gym and yardwork shirt

damn man i really like matjaz but i'm also not a big fan of these sort of nepotistic moves. good to get more european presence though

What are the other ones?

I kind of agree, but he's well-qualified, has deep roots, and lots of experience in the region. If you trust the guy, he's connected to you AND the region, and well-qualified, I don't see a problem with Matjaz.

I'd guess maybe Emerson and Murray since they are Blake's best friends. I dont mind. It's good to have guys connected with the team wanting to make an impact still. Robitaille, Evan's, Fox, O'Donnell, Stoll, Greene, Modry and Armstrong are the obvious ones still around in addition to the occasional guys like McSorely, Anson Carter, Kyle Calder, Steve Heinze who are all still around the organization too.
