Well we can pay that much for the bottom pairing defense assuming Voynov costs us $4-5 million. The question is should we. We can't move Phaneuf, so if the Kings feel that Muzzin or Martinez can bring them back a top 6 forward, I am okay with moving one of them for scoring help. But if there are no good deals available, I would rather have the luxury of this bottom 6 and defensive depth.
 
Given the baggage that comes with him, if the team was to move Voynov, I wonder if it’ll be at a low cost, or do the Kings bring him back and move another body?

If the players in the locker room don’t want him back, then the team is going to decide to move him for what may be a paltry return.
 
Happy Slava record is gone However I have read in several spots today he is not coming back to la. I would think hes a piece in a deal to get a winger most likely Patches as Montreal is said to have interest.
 
Slava and the missus have come to terms with what happened, are still together and by all indications have a happy life. His misdemeanor record has been expunged. If the league reinstates him, what and where is this baggage?

You really think if it comes down to it, this team will "vote" to not want him back? Seriously?

I think the latter is the better option considering he probably wouldn't return anything significant in a trade.

Agree, but I think they would welcome him back.

Short answer? Yes.

Management makes the call. They might not want him back. He also might not fit in salary structure wise.

Hitting a woman is a red line for many men where there is no gray area. Old regime let him practice; not the current one.

Again, there has been zero evidence that there is mutual interest at this point. All we know is Voynov wants back in the NHL and the Kings have punted every time they are asked about it.

Maybe he will be a King, but there seems to be this belief on this board that both parties want this to happen but the Kings are going to pass because of Twitter backlash.

He was making 4.5M in the KHL.

If he really wants to play the NHL again, and the Kings control his rights, he might be willing to sign for a significant discount.

Well, we just saw how drama unfolded in Ottawa due to some rift between players’ wives/girlfriends. You just don’t want to create or escalate an ugly situation.

If the players accept him back, then they get an upgrade on the blueline, but if they have a problem welcoming him back, then I’m guessing at most they’ll be getting draft picks in return, just to wash their hands from dealing with any potential backlash.

I’m not opposed to welcoming him back, but we don’t know internally what the owners, sponsors, management and the players think about Voynov.

two questions:

1. i didn't watch slava much in khl. how did he play last season? i just know he developed a huge pedigree in russia, for instance he had the highest toi in the golden russian team in 2018 olympics tourney, but such are just stats.

2. voynov and kovalchuk were team-mates last 3 seasons, in ska saint petersburg. could that fact alone increase the chances of slava returning to la kings?

ps. i do believe in giving people a second chance.

As for Voynov wanting to return to the Kings, remember it was California that pressed charges etc...and not his wife.

They might not want to be back in the state.

Many who watched the olympics felt that Slava was the best defenseman on the ice.

I've never liked the Muzzin/Doughty pairing.

Doughty plays his best with a stay at home dman. Muzzin is better offensively than he is defensively.

People complain about Forbort, but Doughty just had his best season in awhile while playing with him. I don't think it's a coincidence. Forbort is also young enough to log the big minutes of the top pairing. Muzzin is starting to look tired.
