OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: No 3peat for the Swifts

It’s been reported that Adams wants to go back out west since he is from the west coast
I think Adams wants to get paid. I don’t think he goes back to Vegas and the Rams really can’t afford him. I would imagine the charges prefer a under 30 fa wr we will see

It's a shame that Tomlin has no say over who the position coaches are and gets them randomly assigned to him via lottery.
Sure he can do a better job picking them but Curry got a promotion with the jets. It’s easier to get quality people when you have money to spend

I think the Chargers would look at a receiver over 30 if he still appears to have gas in the tank (which I think Adams does). I also don’t think Adams will be looking for an astronomical payday in free agency. I think he will want to go back out west and finish his career around where he’s from. That means Rams, 49ers and Chargers would be the most likely fits in my opinion. I think the following Rodgers thing is probably over at this point.

Now we're back to "The Rooneys are cheap" which is his exact same rebutal the past offseason.

Again, if Tomlin truly cared about the product, he'd take a pay cut himself so he could get better/more pricey positional coaches.

Poor Mike Tomlin...dude just can't catch a break and he's hamstrung by his $59M .

Adams and Stafford would look good if they keep Stafford.

Why should he take a pay cut. The ravens are able to pay harbaugh the same has Tomlin and they hired more assistant coaches this cycle. Ben Johnson just got 13 million from the bears and they are paying his staff.

They have to move of off Kup 30 million dollar cap hit in a hurry

Once again how did Cowher build a legendary coaching tree on a shoe string budget?

The Steelers couldn’t even afford to sign FAs in the 3 Rivers days, let alone pay their coaches top salaries.

Who cares how many coaches Tomlin has on his staff when he isn’t even competent enough to hire good OCs and DCs.

The "it's everyone's fault other than Tomlin's" mantra is a bit tired.

Coaching salaries have exploded since Cowher was here. The salary cap as exploded also. Cowher annual salary was 3 million a year

There things you can blame tomlin for. The love for big nickel defense and 3 safeties without the DL talent to support it for one. The love for guys like sutton and jackson who don’t fit what you want and keep you from playing m2”m and blitzing. Signing Queen knowing he struggled in Bmore with the green dot and with communication

I explained this to you last year and I'll do it again.

If my job as a manager is super dependent on my assistants and I get paid a ton of money, but I know my boss won't pay my assistants I'm going to defer a portion of my salary so I look better and can accomplish more.
In other words, I care more about the product I put on the field vs my own compensation. And yes I've walked the talk in terms of giving my own assistants a portion of my yearly bonus at my own job.

Actions reflect priorities. Tomlin's priorities are about being paid and to have the camera on him at all times. That's what he's put on tape for the past 18 years. There's no debate about it.

There is literally no one else to blame. This is Tomlin's culture. He's created and breathed life into it. All the players have turned over. There's no Ben, AB, or whoever else to blame. This is Tomlin's baby and it's ugly as all sin

While I agree "SB or bust" is not how to measure success, I also wouldn't define success as the occasional one-and-done. IMO, "success" is going deep in the playoffs every 2-3 years. Tomlin has done that ONCE in the last 13 years.

We have a HC who hasn't been better than average in a very long time, and maybe never has been. And he's gotten embarrassed in the playoffs his last SIX trips. A winning season with nothing to show for it in the playoffs IS NOT a success. Success, at minimum, is progressing toward a championship. This team has not been progressing, not for a long time. We muddled around, finally made an AFCC after a long time, and then the wheels fell off.

The Steelers couldn’t afford to sign FAs with 3 Rivers revenue - so you think DR was giving a big budget to Cowher to bring in his coaching staff.

Tomlin is in no way, shape or form on the ultra tight shoestring budget Cowher was on for hiring his coaching staff.

Trying to making any comparison that Tomlin is hamstrung by finances relative to Cowher is comical.

Yet Tomlin can’t even hire competent coordinators, which is why his coaching tree is non-existent.

Connect the dots - it’s not hard to understand where the problem is.

The league has changed the Steelers are a 4 billion dollar organization

Stop being obtuse, this isn’t hard to understand.

In 1990 at the start of the decade the Steelers had the lowest payroll in the league at 13.1 m.

Cowher was hired two years later and little changed with their revenue issues throughout the decade.

FA began a year later and the following year the cap was created, teams like the 49ers and Cowboys cheated the cap, while the Steelers lost good players (Thigpen and Brown especially hurt them) because they couldn’t compete with high revenue teams.

Cowher not only struggled to deal with his roster being in the bottom half of the league salary wise, he also had a shoestring budget to hire coaches.

He had one of the smallest coaching staffs in the league during his tenure, and they were not well paid compared to their peers.

Yet he built great rosters and a legendary tree, despite being hamstrung by coaching for a low revenue team.

Again, what is Tomlin’s excuse, aside from being a fraud.

Also, nobody is directly mad about the losing. IT'S HOW WE ARE LOSING.

Man, if TOMLIN's team showed up for the last 15 years and you lose by last minute field goals, or a hard fought games ... then it's just a different story.

Tomlin's Steelers just go out there, drop their pants, and shit on the field. That's the problem....

Let's pretend for a moment that the assistants aren't being paid well.

We've been told year after year that everyone wants to be around Tomlin and play for him. Wouldn't that apply to coaching side by side next to this mythical man as well? You'd think that even highly paid coaches would take a paycut just to be around such a HC genius. Yet we don't see that. Hmmm....

Methinks this is a media driven narrative put out by Tomlin's PR team. It's all 1 big farce and people are finally seeing the Emperor has no clothes.
