I’d love to see Blake add Letestu or Duclair to the bottom 6 if he is saying the Defense is set and we aren’t going after De Haan

They're not trading Clifford, so where would they go?
Muzzin for Nylander. Toffoli for Myers. Do it.
That Leaf cap space is going to disappear real quick when just two guys currently counting for less than 2 million combined all of a sudden take up 20 mil in cap
I’d let Letestu play center on the 4th line or make Cliffy a healthy scratch . He makes way to much to be on the 4th and he sucks but I know he brings some culture identity that the team loves .
I think they’ll try to deal Matt Martin to clear up some space and then next offseason, deal Marleau who will have one year remaining in his deal at that point.
He does have a NMCI know things can change, but I thought Marleau has a NMC.
And the loot that Muzzin brings vs a very underrated Martinez (hell, half our fan base can’t admit he’s a legit top-4), for me, has always been a no-brainer. Muzzin would fetch us a much nicer return, and his loss would sting, but we have a lot of pieces. We can have an elite defense without Muzzin, esp with Brickley flying under the radar re:his high praise from scouts and the org. Org still high on Phaneuf. Dion at 16 mins is still rock solid. Plus maybe Slava... who knows, LaDue... Gonna be fun.Thats what Thompson and Amadio are for, and Thompson is good on face-offs.
I keep going back and forth on Muzz vs Martinez. Muzz is going to want more money sooner than Marty and may get us a better asset in return. Martinez has the extra year but his next contract won't be crazy, may even take a discount to stay on the 3rd pair and mentor roll.
First of all, Martinez has never “been a poor defensive player” ... that’s silly, and cut it out. His strengths are, arguably, evenly distributed between his offensive and defensive prowess, depending on the game/situation/season.False, Martinez is a poor defensive player, Muzzin has always been head and shoulders above. Without Muzzin we have no defense.
If you're looking to win now, Trade Martinez. If you want to get pretty assets and waste everyone's final years, trade Muzzin.
The only thing at this point I'd trade Muzzin for is a Nylander quality player on an ELC.

Trade both of them.
IMO...
#1 Doughty
#2 ???
#3 Muzzin
#4 Martinez
#5 Phaneuf/Forbort
#6 Ladue
#7 Brickley
We don’t really have a #2 defenseman as I don’t feel Muzzin is really that guy. Voynov would be our #2. Trade Forbort as we already have a solid #5 in Phaneuf plus Phaneuf isn’t really tradeable.
Plus Muzzin and Martinez bring way more to the table at a 4 mil cap hit then Forbort does at 2.5
I certainly don’t mind dealing one of them but trading both would really leave a gaping hole in the top 4.
Unless your thinking about bringing in a guy like Da Haan via FA, or you are hoping Forbort and/or LaDue can really step it up this year and going forward.
You cannot elevate Phaneuf into the top 4. He’s fine as a bottom pairing guy, playing limited minutes.
I think you trade one this year...let the young guys in....then trade the other next year...again, letting young guys work their way in, I don't think you can trade both at the same time...
