Nope, would rather they go out early then have to watch then go belly up at the last gasp. '93 was awful, plain and simple. Last year? meh, who cares. I just find it weird to be the guy going around telling the world how much his girlfriend/wife sucks, but continues to stay with her. :dunno: To each their own I guess.

P.S. Reaves can suck it.

I'll take a ride over no ride, even if the destination is the same. As crappy as the end of 93 was, at least there's some moments from the run that won't go away. Last year was the crappy ending with nothing else.

I think this is the first time in the past 4 years that I am starting to think a full rebuild is needed. It's just preseason, but what I saw was the same slow and predicable Kings on the ice that cannot score collectively.

I don't seem Blake entering into rebuild based on comments he made and the signing of Kovy, but I at least hope that he has a short leash on Stevens. If the team looks the same way by November, I hope he has the guts to change coaches and get a completely new voice in the room.

We really just have to wait until Friday, not November. If this team comes out and lays another egg on home ice to the Sharks, another egg in a season opener at home against the Sharks, we'll probably have a decent idea of what the year will be like.

The choice of line combos by the coaches is painfully predictable. You can almost picture the Kings falling behind in the first 10 minutes of the game Friday night and see Muzzin, Martinez, Clifford and Thompson open the season with a -1.

It’s plain to everyone here that demoting Amadio is over coaching and a sign of the Kings management wishing for certain results rather than adapting to the new, ugly reality of how this roster stacks up in the league.
Did you really expect Clifford and Thompson to sit out?

That's just idiotic. JAD is lucky he even made the team.

And do you really think Amadio is gonna stay on the 4th line? 10 minutes into the first period he might be playing with Kovalchuk.

You leave my girlfriend out of this.

Eh, I'd rather break up after 6 months than be left at the altar, but again that's just me. Think of all the time the Kings saved us by going out in round 1. :) And judging the entire season after 1 games would be the most hfboards thing ever. Say we win on Friday, do we win the cup? :)

This season will mean a lot on how I view Blake.

Thus far he's sort of had carte blanche because of the shitshow he inherited, but I've liked all his moves. He's proven he's not shy to tinker, and seems like the type to not sunk-cost-fallacy himself to death (cammalleri, jokinen, etc.). He's made great pitches for college kids, drafted speed and skill (and YOUNG draftees, really enjoying that philosophy tbh even if it's mostly accidental), and restocked the system in short order. However--his handling of Stevens if (when) the team falters will be huge. I don't think he's going to be loyal like DL was to Sutter, but I also am not convinced he'd fire Stevens so relatively soon, especially since I have no clue how long is left on his contract. I remember many being annoyed that the Kings' coaching search didn't go beyond Stevens, but they both said all the right things then as they said now, and I guess he DID deliver metric #1 as far as year one results--get the offense out of the total basement. But the way they went out to Vegas almost invalidates that, and seeing what we've seen so far this year...

I mean I thought that last year too. His production vs. ice time was good, and he was earning PP2 time even, yet they kept him buried on the 4th without even trying him up.

Also Stevens and the org have been praising him hard all summer so in line with everything else he's probably ****ing benched and we'll get a 4th line of Clifford-LaDue-Thompson.

It's been a long time since I've been this mad at the team. Maybe the dying breaths of Terry Murray. Pretty close to rooting for utter failure to flush Stevens. Unfortunately now he has an alibi with injuries so he can go full stupid without reservation.
Gonna need to flush more than Stevens.

It's ridiculous. If only they had hired me for video editing back in 2009 this wouldn't have happened! Oh well, at least I got to go inside their office which was pretty cool. They can continue their mediocrity.
My daughter had a similar experience as an intern in 2012.

And you’d ignore five years worth of evidence.

Nope, not at all, but here's the thing, you don't have five years worth of evidence, each year is different and should be judged invidually, the dynamic of the team changes from year to year, but let's ignore that, right?

Maybe, but it's hard to see what the roster really has when the coach seems intent on hampering them by doing things like mentioned above and playing Kopitar more than the other teams' #1 d-man.

Last year was the first time Kopitar hit more than 21 minutes average ice time, care to guess why?

Carter injury and limited roster depth/breaking youth in?

That should be less of a concern this year as Carter is back, Kempe is more seasoned, and Amadio is both more seasoned AND looking monstrous.

Still, can't expect a guy to empty the tank in the last minute when you've played them 21 of the hardest minutes and 5 of the last 6. That's mismanagement.

I wished for both, but it’s reasonable to expect Clifford to be scratched and the lines kept the same with Browns spot swapped out. And Fantenberg over LaDue is also a predictor for the emphasis on “defense”, which is a losing strategy in my opinion, idiotic or otherwise.

Iafallo Kopitar Wagner
Kovalchuk Carter Kempe
Pearson Amadio Toffoli
Lewis Thompson JAD

Doughty Forbort
Muzzin LaDue
Martinez Phaneuf

Agreed, but you are acting like it's a foregone conclusion that Kopitar is gonna play 25 minutes a game from game 1- game 82,

That's nonsense, give it a freaking chance, tell you what, if Games 1-10 Kopitar is averaging more than 22:09, THEN complain all you want about it....but until it happens....WTF are you actually doing?

I agree with you that we need to keep him off of PK, but the problem with that is, he's the best PKer they have, so how do you do that?

Wagner top line? Kempe on right side?

JAD will play 9 games max, maybe less.

Brown will be back in a month and Vilardi probably isn't much farther than Brown.

Depending on how Wagner plays he'll either stay up or be sent down to Ontario.

I think that's a very rare stance to take. I'd rather watch my team go far then get bent In the first round.

Hoping they'd sit out. If the 70's line is still together along with Muzzin/Martinez, then there's no real reason to assume that Stevens will keep Amadio there a good time.

Agreed 100%. This roster is talent and Blake has done a good job from an asset stand point. But the Stevens issue... If Stevens bombs this season and Blake doesn't fire him... Then OOOH man.

Seeing that he's been skating in full gear for a week now I don't see him being much longer than a month out.

Said the same thing before training camp started. Vilardis situation is extremly unpredictable.

Well if you know you'll be left at the alter 6 months earlier, why go through the hassle, but better to have never loved, than loved and lost? At the end of Game 1 of the Final in 93, it was pretty cool. The music was starting for the wedding, not knowing what would happen next.

There's a bit of hyperbole there, but the Kings have struggled against division teams at home, and especially the Sharks, for the last few years. 4-0 and 5-1 losses the last 2 times the Kings opened at home with the Sharks in 14-15 and 15-16. I'd like to see more than that. A team ready to play, that is mentally and emotionally present. I don't care if Stevens leads the group, or if the leadership core leads the group, but somebody has to have the team ready to play on Friday.

The players have changed here and there, but the coaching really hasn't. They've stuck with the same thing - ultra responsible play with very little risk taking. They can bring in fast, skilled guys all they want, but until there's a change in philosophy the results will be the same. It doesn't have to be a major change, just emphasize getting the puck moving forward, perfect positioning be damned. I would argue the dynamic hasn't changed much at all, just different chess pieces playing the same sequence.
