You know, Stoll brought something up during the post game show what many on the team might be thinking; It wouldn't be a bad thing to be top 10 in GAA if it means scoring more, instead of top 3 and being so focused on defense and having to win games 2-1. I think he knows the guys are frustrated with this way of winning. They all know there is too much talent to win games 2-1 and 3-2.

There were so many times last season and during the preseason where the Kings would barely have any presence in the offensive zone due to all the forwards hanging high. No aggressive two-man pressure with a pick off man setup high. Just hanging out in the neutral zone. Stevens must get off behind the bench when he watches the middle of the ice all clogged up.

only way this will happen is by getting rid of Sutter's residues

Etem at least has some potential since he is only in his 20’s and a former first rounder.

Those guys you listed were all at the end of their careers. Hunter was 31, Laich was 34 and Setoguchi was 29-30 and was in Europe the year before.

I'm sure that statement is on behalf of the team and stoll has seen it first hand.

Its just not a good style to play anymore.. Stevens needs to adjust.

What potential would that be?

It's going to take drafting for offense and transition players for the next five years to turn over. That's what it takes for a wholesale organization change. Not a couple mid level NHL players like Iaffalo etc.

I am talking hitting home runs in the 1-2nd rounds consistently.

Yup.

People always love to bring up the quantity of players the Kings have drafted over the past 10 years. But there are way to many Shore's, Clifford's, Andreoff's and not enough Carter's and Muzzin's, much less another Kopitar or Doughty.

That is why you can't say the Kings drafting has been good this decade.

Will it finally be time to trade Jeff Carter this season if the Kings are having another also-ran year?

Should have happened after the 2017 season, that was peak Carter value. Carter was coming off a big season and the Kings could have gotten a big return from an actual contender.

The really frustrating thing is we started to trade possession/defense for offense at the beginning of last year...then the team promptly acknowledged we might kill Quick that way so quickly pulled back.

Problem was we continued dumping possession and didn't improve offense.

So much for losing MacDermid off of waivers. You can probably find 50 varities of MacDermid's ilk in the minors.

Brown, Vilardi and Brodzinski all are likely to be starting the season on IR, and there's the possibility Forbort may still need time to recover.

Exactly what I've been thinking. The start the Kings had last year was almost magical. Then they had a little slump and it was right back to defense-defense-defense, can't win over long haul without best defense in the league, details-system-discipline-more damn details. Let the team run and gun for a while. Let them learn how to score more and then watch the offense/defense sort of "blend" together naturally. Reminds me a little of 1992-1993.

False. There are not tons of guys like him in the minors. At the end of the day, there aren't a lot of claims made.

No to Etem. No to any other waiver wire pickups (at least so far).

Nothing surprising from our end, its a numbers game, and sending Brickley down is the right move, for now.

We need to move one of Thompson or Clifford. Preferably Clifford. Even if its just for a late round pick. Having one of JAD or Wagner on that 4th line with Lewis (and hopefully Thompson) will be good for their next developmental step.

Scouts and GM's look at one thing first and foremost-skating. If you can't do that very well you're an expendable asset.

And 30 teams felt like they didn't need a MacDermid, or make that 31 since the Kings didn't keep him either.

It shows how fans overvalue a stiff just because he can fight other stiffs. Having him in the lineup doesn't deter other morons like Ryan Reaves from running around, as we witnessed in the preseason.

I know we're hoping the Kings could add another Josh Manson, but MacDermid isn't someone you can trust on the ice against an opposing teams' top six.
