He’ll probably miss a good chunk of the first month. Hopefully he can come back without any rust. Now someone is going to get a great opportunity to play with Kopitar. Toffoli, perhaps Wagner?

You act like there's special players like that all through the roster of other teams. No. The Kings have a lot of talent. Individually you can see the players have the talent and skill. A fact that's undeniable.

The score sheet doesn't reflect it and the system doesn't utilize it.
Nah, actually what it is going on is the top talent on other teams is generally much younger and they have every bit as much talent as the Kings.

I can't see Wagner anywhere near the 1st line. I know you guys are in love with him for his speed and compete level (most of you seeing him play for the very first time), but I'm telling you, his skill set is kinda just okay. He has a long ways to go. He's opened some eyes and done a nice job in camp going at 100%. He's a shiny new toy right now, but he projects as a 3rd or 4th line burner unless he learns how to handle the puck better and be an NHL passer. He's a WIP. And yes, he's the fastest skater every to wear a Kings jersey. Temper your expectations. I'm happy he has done well.

Bit of column A, bit of column B.

Suggesting it's ONLY personnel or it's ONLY coaching reveals an agenda.

Absolutely agree. Will be nice to have a bottom-six presence that pushes people back honestly but he could certainly moonlight up the lineup once in a while a la Trevor Lewis.

I think it's more likely we see a skill guy--thinking JAD--move up.

Not doubting you, just that if Stevens wants to keep the other lines intact, an opportunity may be there for Wagner. Like we’ve seen the Kings do in the past with a King or Lewis playing alongside Kopitar.

I really wish I was as excited about this team as many on here are stating. I wasn't thrilled and now that's a lot of goals from last year out of the lineup for what I guess is six weeks.

It's not a deep roster when it comes to top six. I've always been a Wagner fan but he is not a replacement.

Real tough loss. Meaningless game. Cool stuff.

I am optimistic the start of nearly every season, but feel really disappointed heading into this one. Brown being out is a huge blow. The guy was flying out there and is awesome at driving the play. Missing Brown really throws the line balance out the window.

yea but...

it's going to be a really frustrating season for sure

i apologize in advance

if i say **** that you guys don't like to hear, it's merely out of my love for the Kings and general frustration with the organization and the NHL, nothing personal you ****ing *******s!
i think that's where a lot of us are

this is a team with a LOT of talent on it, and it's underachieving. frustrating.

I guess if there is a bright side, October is not a particularly tough schedule for the Kings. They have DET, MTL, OTT, BUF, then bubble teams like NYI, DAL, and MIN. The only really dangerous teams they play are SJ, WPG, and TOR.

Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Iafallo
Pearson - Carter - Wagner
Kempe - Amadio - Toffoli
Clifford - JAD - Lewis

Preseason injuries - sucks but opportunity knocks. Some depth, better prospects, current record 0-0-0. I'm optimistic regardless. Kopitar, Carter and Kovalchuk are going to get a lot of icetime.

We also keep forgetting Mike Futa played a large part in that, the Kings traded a lot of 1st round picks. But there are also a lot of 2nd round misses in there. You can't miss on your second rounders if you trade away your first round picks.

Guys like Clague-Wagner-JAD-Vilardi are some hope for roster players. Not hope for replacing Kopitar-Quick-Doughty in the future.

Also, they passed on a lot of really good guys cause they didn't fix DL's character mold and sandpaper attitude.Futa admitted they made some mistakes drafting, going away from made them successful during the rebuild.

There's no bright side. This is exactly the kind of thing that sinks mediocre bubble teams. Two points in October is equal in value to two points in April. If the Kings end up with a losing record in October, their chances of making the playoffs go way down.

I guess we'll see if the Kings are a mediocre team soon enough... They lost an equally important Carter for 3/4 of a season and still made it last year.
