I want a system which plays to our strengths, but to be honest I'm not sure what our strengths are now, as a team. I know we have good players, but what as a whole are we good at?

Holding the puck? Kopi is good at that, but Kempe and Kovalchuck aren't.

Retrieving the puck? Doughty and Phaneuf are good, but Muzzin and Martinez aren't.

Speed and rush chances? Carter and Kempe are good at that, but Kopitar isn't good at that.

I just don't know what we are. We have sets of players for different strengths, asking them a to do a combination of everything. It's absurd.

That's not because of personnel though. That's a leadership/vision issue.

We're definitely the team at the start of some sort of transition but you're verbalizing my now-and-future concern about identity.

People here need to calm down. It's preseason. Does it look good getting shutout so often? No, but this team is still going to be defense first. The Kings defensive composition just doesn't have the puck moving abilities to run a high octane offense.
I'm far from a Forbort lover and I still know that he's going to get better coming from an injury. Martinez, Muzzin will be fine too, although I would also prefer seeing them on separate pairings. I've liked what I saw from Brickley too and lets not get all drama queen here about him being send to the minors. If the defense stinks, he's going to be called up soon. If not, he's going to gain experience and learn about the wear and tear of professional hockey schedules.
Kempe seems to be going through motions, same goes for Lewis, who was invisible in the preseason. I've liked that Kempe improved his faceoff skills, which was one of his problems in his career till now. I really like Wagner and JAD getting a taste of the NHL but am kind of hopping that they get shifts with skilled veteran players (Kopitar, Carter), it should be beneficial for both the rookies as well as the veterans.
I hate Brown getting injured, he looked pretty good and ready to build on last season. Kovalchuk is dangerous with the puck but seems to be adapting to the NHL rink size. He's struggling with positioning without the puck, which is understandable, since he played the past 5 years on the IIHF size ice rinks.

I'm expecting a trade or two down the line. Will be an interesting season from youth and the veterans.
I cannot wait for the puck to drop.

Shocking, another year of panic over losing the 15th best forward or 8th or 9th best d-man to waivers. And as usual nothing happens.

Just not a valuable asset, to put it in football terms he is a fullback, and probably not a very good one, the game is moving away from guys like him. (unless your Jim Harbaugh)

Coach John Stevens said at the start of training camp that he was happy with some of the improvements made last year, which included creating more in the middle of the ice and scoring off the rush, but that more progress needs to be made.

“I don’t know if I want to say we want to do a whole lot of things different, but we want to do some things a whole lot better,” he said.

As a former fullback this pains me greatly. It'll come back.

ANGER RISING

That makes them official. nice. Amadio 10 makes sense...LaDue wearing Greene's number is gonna look weiiirrrrrrd

With Jaskin and Ganger on waivers today...any interest from the Kings to claim either one of them?

If the Kings claim any of them, they'll have to waive/send down somebody. I'd rather they give Amadio an opportunity to hold the #3 center spot. Jaskin is a decent bottom six player, but with a $1.1M cap hit, they'd have to dump a contract in order to fit him in, which would likely be as a fourth liner.
